Your fragrance captures something about you. Is it sweet and sparkling, sensual and soft or mysterious and alluring? Are you drawn to stronger, woody scents or delicate, floral ones? Or are you still looking for something that really hits home?
Personally I find the most joy from scents that bring something new to the table – a standout fragrance that will make heads turn. One that makes me sit up with curiousity trying to determine what I am smelling and why I love it so much.
These three fragrances hold a special place in my heart because they each offer something unique. Read more about each below:
Bulgari Goldea The Roman Night EDP
From R925, select department stores
The fragrance was inspired by a night in Rome. Those who have been in Italy during the summer will know those dazzling, energetic, warm evenings – the sounds of clinking glasses, laughter and music spilling from sidewalk cafes into the cobbled streets, mingling into the scent of blooming gardens. Like the city, this fragrance is seductive, mysterious and oh so glamorous.
What sets this scent apart for me is the combination of soft, bright, nocturnal and woody elements, making it vibrant and sensual. It’s not exactly oriental, not exactly floral, not exactly woody, but a harmony of all these.
You have top notes of mulberry and black peony, supported by a sensual floral heart with night blooming jasmine, and tuberose absolute. And finally it settles into luminous, woody notes of patchouli, black musk and vetiver.
Diptyque Philosykos EDT
R1600 for 100ml, Skins Cosmetics in Sandton
Diptyque has recently launched their range of high end perfumed products into South Africa and I am over the moon. If you ever find yourself in Sandton, don’t leave without visiting Skins and trying these out for yourself. They are incredible!
Philosykos is a really beautiful, botanical fragrance that has become one of my favourites now that the warm weather is settling in. The dominant scent is fig leaves and wood, combined with white cedar. It is like inhaling the aroma of freshly picked, juicy figs – the bright green scent of the broken stem still lingering in the milky sap.
If you’re looking for something really unique, this one is sure to please.
Zadig & Voltaire Just Rock! Pour Elle EDP
From R785, select department stores
The first time I experienced Zadig & Voltaire, I couldn’t make up my mind whether or not I liked it. It was certainly alluring but also so different from what I was use to. But then it grew on me and it remains one of my absolute favourites.
Now the brand has launched a new variant, Just Rock! This is a gourmand, woody floriental fragrance that is unquestionably feminine with an electric, rebelious undercurrent. Hypnotic tuberose brings in the top note, and the heart is lit up by white jasmine and black vanilla. The combination of floral and woody notes makes it incredibly alluring, sensual and intense.
