There’s a sweet new spot on Buitengracht street. Cookies & Cream has opened their first shop in town, scooping their home-made ice cream, smacked between freshly baked cookies or folded into a fluffy bubble waffle.
Cookies & Cream (not to be confused with Crumbs & Cream) was established in 2014 with the goal to create really good treats using real ingredients, so their ice cream is still made the old fashioned way using milk, fresh cream, eggs, sugar and natural flavourings.
The new shop on Buitegracht street is very charming, with a black-and-white American diner feel. We visited them on a Sunday afternoon and it was buzzing with activity as locals indulged a little, soaking up the late afternoon sun streaming in through the windows.
Cookies & Cream is famous for their ice-cream sandwhiches, but it’s their bubble waffles that have taken the town by storm. They’ve brought the dessert over from Hong Kong, serving a soft and delicate waffle wrapped around your choice of scoops, and served with a selection of toppings. It is absolutely worth the hype.
Their ice cream is very yummy (and not overly sweet). Choose from flavours like peanut butter, butter caramel or cupcake frosting and have it alone, in a cone, with a waffle, or with cookie flavours like Fluffernutter, Snickerdoodle and FunFetti Birthday Cake.
They are also serving up some good coffee to balance out the sweet stuff. Afternoon craving sorted.
The ice cream starts at R30 per scoop. Get an ice cream sandwich for R40, and a bubble waffle from R25.
Cookies & Cream is open Tuesday – Thursday: 11:00 – 22:00 and Friday – Sunday: 11:00 – 23:00
Find them at 87 Buitengracht St, Cape Town City Centre, Cape Town, 8000, South Africa
