My mom calls May the Indian Summer. Down here at the Southern tip of Africa we have one more month of sunny days and warm weather before the winter chill settles in; where we can pull out our floral summer dresses, sandals and sun hats.
To celebrate the final kiss from Summer, I’ve put together four fragrances that capture the sunset of the season, from juicy and seductive to light, bright and romantic scents.
Chloé Love Story Eau Sensuelle
From R935, select department stores
This fragrance was inspired by Paris at sunset, when the rooftops are silhouetted against the amber sky; when the day fades and is replaced by the excitement and romance of the early evening; the time for sensual seduction.
The juice is as sweet as new love, with citrus, pear and orange blossom followed by passionflower and heliotrope at the heart, and warm notes of cedar, amber, musk and sandalwood on the dry-down.
The bottle continues to play on new romance, drawing on the Pont des Arts where thousands of padlocks have been attached to the bridge, symbolising love and commitment. The colour of Love Story Eau Sensuelle further evokes the shades of sunset, shimmering behind the pleated glass.
If you enjoy juicy, white floral fragrances, this one is worth a try.
Missoni Eau de Toilette
From R705, select department stores
The bottle alone makes me think of a tropical sunrise with warm oranges and yellows blending seamlessly across the curved glass.
The fragrance has the same fun and charismatic femininity that Missoni fashion is known for. You’ll instantly catch bright, juicy blood orange, Nashi pear and pink berries. The scent then opens into a floral heart with freesia, peony and rosewater essence before it dries to soft musk, white cedarwood and heliotrope flowers.
The overall effect is punchy, succulent and very yummy. If you love warm fruity fragrances, give it a try.
Cartier Baiser Fou
From R1180, select department stores
This is the latest sweet treat from Cartier, feminine and mischievous like the telltale kiss of lipstick on a collar.
It is an unashamedly indulgent scent. You will instantly experience notes of juicy raspberry, decadent white chocolate and creamy vanilla, wrapped around the softer scent of Orchid at the heart of the fragrance.
If you like sweet, juicy fragrances, you’ll love this one.
Montblanc Lady Emblem Elixir
From R745, Clicks, Dis-Chem, Edgars, Foschini, Red Square & Truworths
Lady Emblem Elixir builds on the original allure of the Lady Emblem fragrance, but this woman is even more seductive, with an appealing confident in her natural beauty.
The fragrance is dominated by floral and citrus notes, underlined by wood and spice. It opens with notes of damask rose, mandarin orange and spicy black pepper, followed by a floral heart of iris, orange blossom, jasmine and rose. And finally the scent dries to comforting vanilla, sandalwood and patchouli.
If you enjoy fresh floral fragrances, I think this one will steal your heart.
