Makeup Tutorial: Super Quick Evening Glamour

During my time as a beauty and fashion blogger I’ve learnt to pull off a full evening look in just a few minutes. Now and then the Fates will play their games with delayed airplane flights, last minute deadlines or insane traffic jams, leaving me with next to no time to pretty-up before an evening function. Often I’ll have half an hour max for shower, hair and makeup. Once I’ve actually done all my makeup in the back of a driving shuttle. Yes, it’s not always all glamour.

I think most of us live pretty rushed lives, so I wanted to create a super easy evening makeup look that can be done in a jiffy. I’ve also put together a couple of new makeup launches that I am loving, and that make life a lot easier when you are forever running around like I am.

Take a look (it’s just 1 minute long, in case you’re in a hurry)

Here’s what I used:

Makeup Tutorial Super Quick Glam 9Lives

Estée Lauder Double Wear Nude Stay-in-Place foundation SPF10

R545 for 3oml, esteelauder.co.za

If you are looking for a full coverage foundation, I can highly recommend this one. It creates a beautifully even, polished appearance with a slight glow effect, and it lasts all day long. Really. It does not shift or slide at all, and it does well to keep oil under control too.

If you are interested in the foundation, go to an Estée Lauder counter for an iMatch foundation matching. They use a machine to determine your exact foundation shade. Brilliant.

Urban Decay Optical Blurring Brush

R500, Urban Decay Boutiques & foschiniforbeauty.co.za

There are various types of foundation brushes and sponges out there. My favourite is still a stippling brush for a smooth finish, and I am currently loving the Urban Decay Optical Blurring Brush. It has dense bristles and a slightly curved head to give you perfect coverage in no time.

If you are applying makeup in a hurry (or anytime, really), I definitely recommend using a brush. It minimizes the chances of those smears and patches you would get if you applied product using your fingers.

Maybelline Master Strobing Stick in Dark Gold

R169,95 for 9g, maybelline.co.za

This is one of the most exciting launches from Maybelline in a while. These creamy Strobing Sticks give you a beautiful, soft and natural highlight effect, drawing attention to high points on your face like your cheekbones, nose and brow bones. I adore cream blushers and highlighters because they are so easy to apply and blend, even if you’re using your fingers.

For this look I used a highlighter only – I find you don’t really need blusher in the evening when the lights are dim, and that highlighters work brilliantly to catch soft light on your face.

MAC Brow Set in Beguile

R260, maccosmetics.co.za

By now you know I’m all for brows, even when I’m in a rush. Brow mascaras are a great time saver, giving you fuller, defined brows in a few swipes. The MAC Brow Set is particularly great because it gives a punch of colour without looking harsh or unnatural, and it keeps my brows in place all day.

I like to coat my brows twice, brushing them down at first and them back into their proper shape.

Urban Decay Afterdark Palette

LIMITED EDITION. R850, Urban Decay Sandton City, Foschini Eastgate, foschiniforbeauty.co.za

If you are building up your makeup kit, it is worth investing in a quality eyeshadow palette – I love nude sets for daytime and punchy collections for nights out.

I think the Urban Decay Limited Edition Palettes are absolutely brilliant. They always offer interesting shades with gorgeous, intense pigment quality and long lasting wear. They are also seriously easy to work with, with a velvet, buttery quality that blends out easily.

Afterdark is their latest release, presented in a ultra retro purple case with a full-size mirror and double-ended brush. You get a stunning selection of gold and copper tones, as well as bold jewel shades to amp things up.

Clinique Lash Power Flutter-to-Full Mascara

R295, clinique.co.za

How’s this for clever? Clinique’s latest mascara can be customised. Turn the dial to create flirty fluttering lashes or go all the way to full-on volume.

Love!

The brush is thin and easy to use, and it combs through beautifully to coat each lash; no clumps at all. It also lasts all day without any dusting or crumbling, and it is fairly easy to remove at night.

MAC Liptensity Lipstick in Cordovan

R300, maccosmetics.co.za

I adore a bold lippie. It is a seriously quick and easy way to add instant glamour to your makeup look and my go-to if I’m rushing from the office to an evening event.

This one from MAC is just divine. It is ultra creamy with solid, intense pigment on the first swipe. And how beautiful is this shade for winter? J’Adore! Head over here for more winter lippies I’m loving right now.
