New natural skincare finds I’m loving

Many of us are veering towards natural skincare these days. Happily, a lot of brands are rising to meet our need, creating effective, aesthetically pleasing products using the best from Mother Nature.

Here are three new goodies that I’m particularly excited about.

MYHRU HIGH! Serum Intensive Vitamin Oil

R680 for 50ml, myhru.co.za

MYHRU HIGH Serum Liezel Malherbe 9Lives 1

This face oil by local brand MYHRU is brilliant if you need to to nourish your skin, rebuild your skin barrier and boost it with antioxidants.

Naming it a serum is perhaps a bit confusing – I expected a lightweight consistency at first. Instead this is a rich, nourishing oil that is perhaps more in line with a barrier-repair ointment. That being said, I absolutely adore it.

It contains a blend of 100% natural oils including Marula, Baobab, Moringa and Kalahari Melon. You’re getting a high hit of vitamins as well as Omegas 3,6 and 9 which are essential if you want a healthy skin barrier and treat dry or dehydrated skin. Omega 3 is also known to reduce inflammation, one of the main culprits in early ageing skin.

It has a beautiful, nutty smell and indulgent, rich texture. I recommend using it at night before you smooth over your moisturiser.

Kiehl’s Pure Vitality Skin Renewing Cream

R895 for 50ml, kiehls.co.za

This is the latest launch from Kiehl’s, with a 99,6% naturally-derived formula. It is built around New Zealand Manuka Honey and Korean Red Ginseng Root, and helps to comfort and nourish your skin, resist moisture loss and aid recovery.

I have been using it for a couple of weeks and I am definitely a fan. I have to warn that the texture is somewhat different from your standard Kiehl’s moisturiser – it has a rich, gel-like texture that melts into your skin, and you really only need a tiny amount at a time. It also has a beautiful, honey scent that releases as you massage.

The Manuka Honey was chosen for its exceptionally high polyphenol (micronutrient) level and anti-oxidant activity which they say help to protect the skin from oxidative damage such as pollution and UV. According to the brand, Manuka Honey is also known to stimulate collagen-producing fibroblasts and keratinocytes, and it helps to repair damage and maintain skin barrier hydration due to its high sugar and mineral content.

Korean Red Ginseng Root, they explain, has been linked to stimulation and protection of the cellular energy pathways. During testing they found that with the Korean Ginseng cell turnover rate increased by nearly 10%.

From personal experience I can say that my skin felt comfortable and nourished while using this, and I to me it looked softer, plumper and more radiant. I think this is a goodie, particularly for dryer skin types or during dry seasons.

Team Dr Joseph Daily Cleansing Milk

R380 for 200ml, futurethis.co.za

Team Dr Joseph launched in South Africa last year, bringing together high tech skincare innovation and effective, 100% natural formulations.

This cleansing milk contains jojoba oil, a rich source of Vitamin E, as well as protective olive oil and blueberry extract, soothing chamomile,  clearing rosemary extract and buckeye that boosts micro-circulation.

Since I suffer from a dehydrated skin I like using cleansing balms, oils and milks that remove daily grime without stripping my skin or leaving it feeling taut and tight. This Cleansing Milk is quite lovely. It has a silky feeling that warms up slightly when applied, and my skin feels soft and comfortable after cleansing. I would, however, recommend you remove makeup with a pre-cleanser beforehand.
