Swatch List: My favourite new lipsticks, oils & glosses

Looking for a new lippie? I have recently been introduced to some really brilliant new lip launches, from a creamy mattes to flirty glosses and fun oils. Scroll down to read more about each, and flip through the gallery to see more colour options.

L’Oréal Lip Paint Matte Liquid Lipstick

R179,95, select retailers

This is easily one of my favourite launches this year. These lipsticks from L’Oréal have a creamy formula with a buttery feel on your lips and a velvet matte finish. The colour pay-off is fantastic, with a clever applicator for easy precision painting, and it lasts really well. I’ve worn Apocalypse Red (my favourite for winter) to a food event with plenty of wine and a four course lunch, and I only had to reapply after dessert. So impressed! I’m also loving King Pink, a bright neon that gave me an instant tanned look.

Lancôme Matte Shaker Liquid Lipstick

R315, Edgars, Red Square, Woolworths, Truworths & Foschini

These Juicy Shakers are so much fun. You shake to wake and then dab the colour on your lips with the little sponge applicator. The original Juicy Shaker Lip Oils stole my heart when they launched last year, and these are even better. Matte Shaker has a semi-matte finish when you first apply and then it wears down to a colour stain. The pigment is more intense than the lip oils and it lasts much longer. If you like no-fuss makeup then you should definitely try these.

Clinique Chubby Plump & Shine Liquid Lip Plumping Gloss

R290, clinique.co.za

Gloss is making a comeback to the beauty scene and I’m thrilled. While matte lipsticks are high drama, a gloss has a fun, flirtatious charm. The new Clinique Chubby Plump & Shine gloss offers a high shine finish without being overly sticky, and I think the colours are really pretty for a soft, natural look. Twist at the bottom to dispense the gloss and use the plastic crayon-shape tip to spread to product. Being a gloss, the colour doesn’t last as well as a lipstick would but it does keep your lips feeling moisturised for nice and long, and it is easy enough to reapply on the go.

Elizabeth Arden Sheer Kiss Lip Oil

R295, elizabetharden.co.za

I just discovered these new lip oils from Elizabeth Arden and I can already see them becoming a favourite going into spring/summer (especially Coral Caress). It has a soft center that you press to dispense the product, and you can use the small slant tip to spread the colour (or your finger if you prefer). It feels like a soft lip balm on your lips, and it delivers a lovely natural colour that will be perfect for daytime makeup.
