The new SkinCeuticals H.A Intensifier is here to save your skin

Winter is a really difficult time for my skin. I struggle with dry, irritable skin in general and it is particularly prone to flair-ups during cold weather and when the seasons start to change. So I am constantly looking for skincare products that will soothe and hydrate.

SkinCeuticals has just launched their new H.A Intensifier and I was instantly eager to try it and see whether it could pump some moisture back into my skin.

This corrective serum works to correct the signs of ageing with a high concentration of pure hyaluronic acid. Our skin naturally produces hyaluronic acid, a powerful humectant that helps to maintain moisture levels in the skin while giving it a plump, firm, smooth appearance. However, from our 20s, our natural production of hyaluronic acid begins to decrease, leading to fine lines, dullness and shadows.

You can counter this by applying hyaluronic acid to your skin’s surface, which is why this has become such a trending ingredient in recent years. Unfortunately not all HA is made equally and not all of them will give you long term results. I’m really excited about the SkinCeuticals H.A Intensifier. Firstly this skincare brand is known for high concentrations of potent active ingredients – which is why their products are only sold at Dermatologists. The H.A Intensifier doesn’t simply slap hyaluronic acid on your skin, but rather amplifies the skin’s hyaluronic acid levels with three key ingredients:

  • 10% Pro-Xylane helps to support hyaluronic acid levels and maintain the skin’s matrix, which helps to improve skin’s firmness. Pro-Xylane is a sugar-protein hybrid made from xylose, a sugar that stimulates the production of glycoaminoglycans (GAGs), molecules responsible for defending the skin against water loss.
  • 2.0% Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate (licorice extract) + 0.2% Purple Rice Extract helps to preserve hyaluronic acid in skin. Licorice Extract is an excellent ingredient to sooth skin while purple rice is a powerful superfood packed with antioxidants.
  • Three types of hyaluronic acid – full molecular weight, fragmented and encapsulated chains – that provide long lasting hydration.

I have been trying the H.A Intensifier Serum for a few weeks now, applying it in the mornings and evenings after my toner and before my moisturiser. The serum itself as a dark brown colour and syrup consistency, which is easily dropped into your palm using the small pipette. I could start to feel a difference after the first week: my skin wasn’t feeling so tight, dry or itchy, and I could see a softening in fine lines on my forehead. I am excited to keep using it for continued results.

SkinCeuticals recommends that you pair the H.A Intensifier Serum with an antioxidant serum and sunscreen so that you are giving your skin 360° protection. Their CE Ferulic Acid serum is particularly brilliant, or you can try Phloretin CF, a daytime antioxidant serum that provides environmental protection while regulating pigmentation. You can apply the H.A Intensifier twice daily, and your antioxidant serum in the morning (depending on the serum, of course) before your moisturiser and sunscreen.

SkinCeuticals H.A. Intensifier is available for R1 550 from August 2017. Get it at dermastore.co.za or leading skin specialists.
