I am a big fan of makeup that comes in crayon form, probably because it makes me more feel like a kid colouring in, and not so much like a grown-up getting ready for a day at work. The cream consistency is also brilliant for an easy blend, without any mess and dusting.
I was recently introduced to the GOSH Forever Eyeshadow sticks (R160 each, Edgars), which instantly caught my fancy with a mix of neutral mattes and metallic pops. Of course you can’t judge a product by its pretty packaging and since these shadow sticks are so affordable, I wasn’t sure if they’d deliver on pigment. I was, therefore, thrilled when I swiped the first shade (Light Copper) across the back of my hand to find a solid, deliciously golden streak shimmering on my skin.
Cream makeup normally falls short on pigment quality and how long it lasts. These babies delivered on both points, giving beautiful, solid colour in one creamy swipe, and lasting all day. It dries down in seconds and after that it does not budge (so FYI you will need an oil-based makeup remover to get it off).
My Easy Eyes Tutorial
I created this easy eye shadow look using a combination of matte and metallic shades. A few tips on using these:
- Blending: It was easier to blend with my fingers than a brush, but what actually worked best was to blend the colours together using the actual crayons. For instance I used the Light Copper shade to mix Brown from the outer corner into the rest of the shadow. Just work the lighter colour into the darker one until you are happy with the fade.
- Intensify: If you want the highlighter shades (gold and silver) to really pop, wait for the shadow to dry and go over a second time.
- Texture: I found that the product is slightly sticky so I focused the colour on my lid, below the crease. You can easily tone down the sticky feel by dusting translucent powder over the final look once the shadow has dried completely.
- Removal: They are definitely waterproof so make sure you have an oil-based makeup remover to get it off. You can also use coconut oil.
Here’s what I used:

The range consists of matte and metallic shades
The GOSH Forever Eye Shadow range consists of matte and metallic shades that all have a super smooth texture giving you gorgeous, even colour. I would use a combination of Nougat and Dark Brown for every day makeup if I’m feeling lazy, and the Dark Grey is brilliant if you like a smoky eye.
As for the metallics, I am a huge fan of shimmering brown, golden and copper shades, but I think the emerald Green shade is just as fabulous for a striking evening eye look.
They promise 8 hours of wear with these shadow sticks and I can attest to that. I created this look at 8am in the morning and by 11pm that evening it was still pretty perfect.
