Pop these beauties in your beach bag this summer | 9Lives

The summer holidays have finally arrived and I cannot wait to slip on my flipflops, head to the beach and lounge the day away with a good book and a view of the ocean waves lapping over the hot sand.

I have found that a well-planned beach bag makes all the difference in how much you eventually enjoy the experience. I always recommend some ice water, something to eat, something to read, and a few beauty goodies that will help you freshen up.

Here are a few I have come to love:

Dr Paw Paw Multi-Purpose Soothing Balm

R95 for 25ml, Dis-Chem

This paw paw-based balm contains a blend of olive fruit, papaya and aloe, with petrolatum, and works to smooth and hydrate lips, cuticles and dry skin on your heels and elbows. You can also use it to tame your brows or smooth over frizzed ends. Go for the fragrance-free Original if you want a basic balm, or try the Peach Pink or Ultimate Red variants for a hint of colour.

Eau Thermale Avene Thermal Spring Water

R149,95 for 150ml, Clicks

I’ve become obsessed with these thermal sprays. Okay yes, you are in fact spraying fancy water on your body, but at the same time it is such a soothing and cooling experience. This promises to condition and sooth your skin, which makes it a lovely choice for your beach bag.

COLAB Active Sheer + Invisible Dry Shampoo

R99,95 for 200ml, Clicks

I love a good dry shampoo, which absorbs oil along the roots so that you don’t have to wash as often. This one is particularly brilliant, working in a jiffy to refresh your locks without any trace of powdery residue. It also contains UV protection and hydrating ingredients that help to protect your hair.

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water Mini

R34,95 for 125ml, facebook.com/GarnierSA

I have a pretty sensitive skin and it gets irritated if I leave salt water or sweat lingering too long. So I like to carry micellar water in my bag and wipe my face off after swimming, and before applying a fresh layer of sunscreen. I love this mini version of the Garnier Micellar water; a super convenient goodie to chuck into your bag.

Blistex  Ultra-Rich Hydration lip balm SPF 15

R85, select pharmacies and retailers

Make sure you choose a lip balm that contains an SPF. This new balm from Blistex is dual layered, with an outer layer that contains lip protectants and an inner layer that has moisturisers. The core has been formulated with Shea and Cocoa Butter as well as Olive and Jojoba Oil, while the outer layer seals in moisture with Ceresin, Beeswax and Wheat Germ Oil. I love the texture and I found it works really well to keep my lips soft through the day.

Nivea Sun Protect and Moisture Moisturising Sun Spray SPF 50+

R189,99 for 300ml, nivea.co.za

Nivea has introduced a new formulation with this sunscreen, with added Panthenol that helps to nourish your skin and counter the drying effects of sun, salt water and chlorine. The trigger spray bottle is also brilliant, making it quick and easy to spritz on the product, and the 300ml size is nice and generous. Plus it has that classic summer sun scent that instantly makes me think of warm beaches and cool water.

Dove Go Fresh Anti-Perspirant Deodorant

R27,95 for 150ml, Clicks

I never hit the beach without a deo. The fact that I’m consistently moving between the water and the heat of the sand means I am forever in need of some, um, refreshing. I absolutely love the cool cucumber and green tea scent of this spray and I found it works really well to keep odours at bay. This formulation is also alcohol free, so you don’t have to worry about it causing sun-sensitivity.

The Body Shop Peppermint Cooling Foot Spray

R110 for 100ml, The Body Shop

This spray has a blend of peppermint and menthol that smells incredible and I love the cooling sensation when I spray this on my hot, tired feet. It also contains nourishing Panthenol and Glycerin to condition as it refreshes.

Wella Elements Conditioning Leave-In Spray

R276 for 150ml, retailbox.co.za

Salt water, chlorine from pools and sun exposure will all seep moisture from your hair. One trick is to apply a hair mask to damp hair and leave it in before heading to the beach. I like to pop a leave-in conditioner in my beach bag and spray it into my hair after a swim. This one from Wella is lightweight and smells divine!

Happy holidays! I hope you have a great rest!
