Beauty products we loved this week | 9Lives Beauty
Reading Time: 4 min

The 9Lives office has been abuzz with excitement because of some of the beauty products we’ve received lately, to such an extent that we decided to do a weekly review of some of the products that recently landed on our desks. With autumn around the corner, we have some nourishing body washes, organic shampoos, hair masks and more that we’d love to share and recommend.

Have a read below on our picks of the week and remember to comment your own favourites below.

Filorga Oxygen-Glow Mask
R450 for 75ml,

The Filorga Oxygen-Glow Mask smoothes, unifies, plumps and detoxifies the skin for that perfect photo-finish look. The bottle promises a glowing complexion in just 10 minutes, and it delivers! The product smells absolutely amazing, and the thick, creamy consistency feels so good as a mask, I could feel my dry skin drinking in the moisturising properties.

Basically, you apply the mask to your face and leave it on for about 10 minutes, after which you rinse it off. I thought the creamy consistency would feel gross once wet, but it actually dissolves almost like soap rather than a lotion, which is great! It also promises to give you a healthy glow, which it definitely delivers through a glittery shimmer that remains after you wash off the mask. My coworkers thought I looked like Edward Cullen before I rinsed it off, but afterwards I just looked like I was glowing!

Gliss Intense Therapy Mask
R89 for 300ml,

Blonde hair is a bitch!
Me: “I’m going to spend the whole day in the swimming pool soaking up the last of the summer sun!” And my hair replies with locks of green grass.
Then after a while, your hair decides that green isn’t the colour of the week anymore, but yellow is!

I have a love-hate relationship with my blonde hair, but Schwarzkopf Gliss Intense Therapy turned the hate into love! My hair needed a bit of TLC and I most definitely got it! Hello maintained blonde hair! The treatment didn’t weigh down my hair, instead leaving it fresh and light, and as a bonus it smelled amazing. I can also definitely say that it also got rid of that yellowish tint – thank goodness!

Esse Cocoa Exfoliator
R360 for 50ml,

I really love this product. It smells like Turish Delight (Yum!), it feels amazing on your skin, and not only is it made with natural and organic products like coconut- and sesame seed oil, cocoa and sugar crystals, it’s also completely vegan and PETA certified cruelty-free. It’s a little thicker than a regular exfoliant, and has more of a paste-like consistency, so you have to add a little water to make it easier to use. I have very dry and sensitive skin, so I appreciate how soft and moisturised using this exfoliant leaves my face.

OWAY Frequent Use Hair & Scalp Bath and Frequent Use Conditioner
R355 for 240ml of the shampoo and R375 for 240ml of the conditioner, will be released in salons this May

I’m going the organic way, and my hair has never been happier. I was fortunate enough to try out the OWAY frequent use hair & scalp bath and frequent use conditioner, and I was immediately seduced. An agri-cosmetic concept concocted from biodynamic lemon, organic white tea and ethically-produced Anisata, this shampoo and conditioner was just what I needed to add a touch of nourishment to my dry and unruly hair.

I loved the liquid consistency of deliciously fresh and citrusy shampoo. And it lathered surprisingly well, leaving my hair feeling squeaky clean. The silky soft conditioner had a more of a herby scent and dissolved seamlessly as I massaged into my hair. I was truly amazed at how my usually wild hair was gorgeously soft, smooth and sleek the next morning. OWAY Frequent Use Hair & Scalp Bath and Frequent Use Conditioner is here to stay on my shower rack!

TriXera NUTRITION Nutri-Fluid Cleanser
R179.95 for 400ml, Eau Thermale Avene

So, my skin’s been going through a tough time. I have psoriasis-prone skin that flares up especially when the season changes to winter. The result being that my skin is extremely dry and itchy, and can become quite uncomfortable. And let me tell you, normal soaps and lotions just dries the skin out further.

I was delighted to try out the TriXera NUTRITION Nutri-Fluid Cleanser by Eau Thermale Avéne. This foaming gel is specially formulated for dry to very dry skins, and the best part is that it is designed for both your face and body. The cleanser is soap-free and leaves my skin feeling soft and nourished, and most importantly, supple. If you are keen on giving this a go, I would definitely also suggest following the cleanser up with their TriXera NUTRITION Nutri-Fluid Lotion which is a non-greasy nourishing lotion for dry, sensitive skin. Maria gave it a good write-up in her recent beauty finds article, so have a look.
