My skincare routine has become a sacred time for me, granting me just a few moments in my day just for myself — to nourish my skin and give it some much needed indulgence. As we are transitioning from summer into autumn, I’ve been on the lookout for purifying products that will freshen my skin for the new season, and offer hydration and protection for the fast approaching cooler climate. While I’m all for these functional components of skin care products, I’m easily seduced by products that evoke a sensory experience. For me, my beauty routine is also about awakening my senses with alluring smells and silky soft textures. So with this in mind, I’ve rounded up my favourite beauty finds for the month of March.
Sébium Bioderma purifying cleansing foaming gel
R221.95 for 200ml (clicks.co.za)
I love cleansing my face. Giving my face a good lather is the perfect “wake me up” in the morning, and after a day’s build up of dirt, bacteria and pollutants, my face craves a good scrub. The thing is, I have somewhat thin and sensitive skin so a gentle formulation is my go-to option. With this in mind, I was keen to try out Sébium Bioderma purifying cleansing foaming gel. Not only was I already a fan of Bioderma Sensibio Gel Moussant (check out my top choice of cleansers), but this purifying cleanser has the added benefit of a zinc sulphate and copper sulphate purifying formulation which works to clean out the pores and keep those blemishes and breakouts at bay.
With a delicious, fresh and clean scent, this soothing cleanser was sensational. I particularly loved the feel of this light liquid gel against my skin, and I was able to build up a good lather. Afterwards, my skin felt remarkably refreshed, alive and not to mention so soft to the touch. This one is definitely here to stay on my shower rack!
TheraVine Daily Defence Charcoal Purifying Mask
R408 for 50ml (theravine.co.za)
I’m all for a purifying detox, especially when I know my poor pores are crying out from a buildup of residual makeup, dust and environmental pollutants. So, I try make the time to pamper my skin with a face mask at least once a week. TheraVine Daily Defence Charcoal Purifying Mask ticks all the boxes when it comes down to what my skin needs. With active charcoal, this is the ultimate pollutant fighting mask to detox the skin, drawing out all the nasty pollutants, bacteria, toxins, chemicals and dirt. Recently, I’ve been a bit lazy about removing my makeup before exercising and in conjunction with some of the sultry hot days we’ve been having, this usually translates into a few sweat pimples on my t-zone. However, at the moment my skin seems to be smooth and glowing. This is the most rewarding part of a proper skincare routine! I’m always amazed to see what a difference a few good quality products make; and it was great to see how this purifying mask enhanced my complexion.
I also really enjoy using this product. It embraces my face with lingering botanical scents, which means massaging this soft grey-green cream into my face is an absolute pleasure. With no sticky or cakey feeling, leaving it on my face for 10-15 minutes has never felt more effortless. Best of all, the soft clay residue is easy to rinse off my skin, leaving it feeling soft and supple.
Nuxe Nuxuriance Ultra Serum
R695 for 30ml (woolworths.co.za)
As a twenty-something, I’m now at a stage in my life where I think, “Shit! I should probably start taking anti-aging measures”. I mean, we’ve heard it all before; you gotta start as early before it’s too late. So, when I stumbled across Nuxe Nuxuriance Ultra Serum it seemed a good fit for me. With Saffron and Bougainvillaea Bi-Floral, this ultra serum is created to regenerate the skin for a smoother complexion and natural youthful radiance. Eager to let it do its magic, I included this serum into my night beauty routine. I particularly liked its soft satin-like consistency that absorbed seamlessly into my skin with no oily trace. Afterwards, my face felt supple and plump, and ready for moisturisation.
Avéne Trixera Nutrition Nutri-Fluid Lotion
R229.95 for 400ml (clicks.co.za)
Summer is on its way out, which means it’s time for me to prep my skin for the long, icy, dry months to come. We are, however, in a transition phase, and there are a few more stubborn sunny days left. So, I basically need a moisturiser that offers enough nourishment, but is also lightweight when temperatures decide to rise again. Offering 48-hydration for sensitive and dry skin with all sorts of goodies such as ceramides and essential fatty acids to restore the skin barrier and soften the skin, I’m happy to say that Avéne Trixera Nutrition Nutri-Fluid Lotion proved to be my winner. And best of all, it has a delicious fresh scent and its silky cream consistency soaked into my skin in a matter of seconds. All I can say is that I’ve found what I’ve been looking for!
Eco Diva #DIVAGLOWSHIMMER- 100% Natural Body Shimmer
R385 for 100ml (ecodiva.co.za)
To add a fun and feisty element to my beauty routine, I decided to jazz up my skin with Eco Diva #DIVAGLOWSHIMMER, a natural bronzing body butter. While I was originally swayed by the idea of adding a glow to my fading summer tan, I was also impressed with the fact that this enriching body butter is completely organic and offers protection from free radicals. Although not something I’d use everyday, I fell in love with its delicious scent, soft creamy consistency and sparkly effect it left on my skin.
