I am a strong believer in the power of beauty sleep. My bedtime ritual is sacred, a time when I indulge in a bit of pampering through a few simple rituals. It is also smart to design a nighttime routine that can really boost your skin while you’re sleeping. While we’re snoozing our skin is highly active, recovering and removing toxins. Plus who doesn’t love a product that can do the hard work while you’re getting a bit of shut-eye?
So are you making the most of your beauty sleep? Here are a few exciting releases that have transformed my bedtime routine.
Dermalogica Sound Sleep Cocoon
R1 295 for 50ml
This gel cream works during the night to optimize your skin’s recovery. It contains Tamarind seed extract to hydrate, as well as lavender to promote deeper sleep. You can either use this as a night cream, or layer it over your current moisturiser for more intense hydration.
SkinCeuticals Glycolic 10 Renew Overnight
R1 528 for 50ml
I am so excited about this newbie from SkinCeuticals. Think of it as a mild chemical peel that works while you’re snoozing, so you wake up with smoother skin. And with continual use your skin will start to look more even, clear and refined. The glycolic acid boosts cell turnover by dissolving the bonds between dead skin cells, causing them to shed quicker. This then stimulates new cells to generate, making your skin look younger. And all this happens without you having to do a thing.
Crabtree & Evelyn Wanderlust Dream Candle
R800 for 200g
If you share my candle obsession then you have to go and experience the range from Crabtree & Evelyn, each formulated for a different room in the house. Wanderlust Dream has been designed specifically for the bedroom with notes of violet, geranium, cinnamon, pink pepper and smooth tobacco.
If you love unique scents, give Curiosity Corner a try as well. I find it incredibly enticing with hints of smoky cedarwood.
Comfort Zone Tranquility Body Cream
R850 for 180ml, retailbox.co.za
I cannot properly tell you how completely in love I am with this body cream. The scent is smooth and indulgent with soft, woody notes that are perfect to unwind before bed – and it will linger on your skin long after you’ve applied it. The cream is also beautifully rich and silky without feeling overly heavy or sticky. It’s a pricy one but worth the spoil.
Bioderma Hydrabio Masque
R269,95 for 75ml, leading pharmacies
This is a fantastic mask if you need to give your skin a quick boost of moisture. While the directions tell you to tissue it off after 10 minutes, I love slapping it on and leaving it overnight. It is suitable for all skin types but particularly great if you have sensitive and dehydrated skin.
