Where can you get the best wine platters?

With summer already knocking on our front doors, there’s no better time to visit a few wine farms and enjoy a lekker cheese platter in the shade, while sipping on the best of the local wines. In fact, this might just be how I spend my weekends for the rest of the year.

Whether you’re a Camembert fan, or more of a Brie enthusiast, here’s where you can find some of my favourite platters in the Cape Winelands:

1. Diemersdal Farm Eatery – Durbanville Wine Valley

Situated on the Koeberg Road just outside of Durbanville, Diemersdal is renowned for their award winning wines, picturesque scenery and Farm Eatery. This is overall just a great place to soak up some sun (and wine).

I’ve enjoyed their cheese platter on numerous occasions. With a generous pile of Dalewood Camembert, Cremelat Gorgonzola, Klein rivier 6 month Gruyere, fresh bread rolls and homemade preserves, you’ll be in for a treat. If you’re a group, I’d highly recommend that you order the meat platter as well. Both are amazing and pair really well with their wines.

2. Klein Roosboom Boutique Winery – Durbanville Wine Valley

If you are looking for a unique experience, Klein Roosboom Boutique Winery in the famous Durbanville Wine Valley is well-worth a visit. Not only are their wines delicious, but Klein Roosboom also have noteworthy platters.

You can choose between three platters on their menu – the Cheese and Charcuterie platter for 2; the Trout Platter (available on weekends only) and the (inhales) Twee-Buffels-Met-Een-Skoot-Morsdood-Geskiet-Fontein platter. As its name suggests, the latter is more for the meat-lovers, with biltong, salami sticks and pan-seared chorizo.
The cheese platter for 2 is big enough to share between three people, and it’s definitely something I will order every single time.

3. Peter Falke Wines – Stellenbosch Wine Route

Moving over to the Stellenbosch Wine Route, Peter Falke Wines is situated on the Annandale road between Stellenbosch and Somerset West. With a laid-back outside area under the trees, they are a big hit amongst the younger crowds.

For your cheese platter you can choose from a selection of imported cheese, served with preserves, seasonal fruits and ciabatta bread. They also have a charcuterie platter with a selection of parma ham, mortadella, coppa and salami sticks. Yum! As a bonus they are open until 19:00, making it the perfect stop-off for sundowners and snacks before dinner.

4. Delaire Graff Estate – Stellenbosch

Nestled between the majestic Helderberg mountains, Delaire Graff is situated just outside Stellenbosch. With an incredible view over the vineyards, you have the perfect setting to enjoy a wine platter on a sunny afternoon.

With four platters on their menu to choose from, they make sure you come back for more. If you just feel like snacking, their savoury snack platter is the perfect size, with kalamata olives, droëwors and breadsticks. Their cheese platter consists of a selection of locally produced cheese, where their charcuterie platter is packed with copa, bresaola and salami served with wholegrain mustard and bread.

5. Jordan Wines – Stellenbosch

Situated on the Stellenbosch Kloof Road amongst the vineyards, Jordan Wine Farm is a real cheese lover’s paradise.

Jordan has a cheese room (I told you, paradise) where you can nibble on local cheeses,
such as Fairview, Klein Rivier and Dalewood. Most of their featured cheese are not even available in retail outlets. Here you can make your own cheese board to
enjoy with a bottle of wine or two, and it’s delicious!
