The best scented beauties in my cupboard right now | 9Lives
Reading Time: 3 min

I am a total sucker for a beautiful fragrance, be it perfumes, candles, haircare or body products. And I’m not talking about just plain ol’ Sandalwood or Vanilla scents. I’m talking about those really decadent, beautifully crafted blends that make your mouth water a little.

I love how a delicious aroma can turn any moment into a treat, whether I’m simply enjoying warm spicy notes radiating from a candle after a long day, or indulging in fruity tones from a body wash mingling into the warm steam of a shower. What’s better than getting into bed smelling like a rose garden?

You get it. I’m seriously smitten.

Recently I’ve been introduced to quite a few new beauty products that have stolen my heart. If you share my obsession (or if you just like smelling damn good), you have to try these out.

Oribe Signature Shampoo and Conditioner

Shampoo R611 for 250ml and conditioner R650 for 200ml ,

Oribe Signature Shampoo and Conditioner 9Lives

Imagine a garden just after a rain storm, when the sun comes out and starts to bake away the droplets, releasing the fresh green aroma into the air. That’s where this range takes me.

Aside from smelling like a dream, I really really love this line. The shampoo is super concentrated so I use much less than I would with other products, and while it foams beautifully it doesn’t dry my scalp or hair out at all. On the contrary, I feel my scalp is more balanced and less prone to oiliness since I’ve started using it. The conditioner is equally concentrated so you only need a small amount, but it rinses out easily and doesn’t weigh my hair down. The combo leaves my hair feeling light, smooth and strong.

This Oribe range also contains UV filters that will help protect colour treated hair from fading.

Kahve Body Scrubs

Coconut Matcha Revive and Coffee Cinnamon Enliven R280 each for 225g,

Kahve Body Scrub 9Lives

Kahve (Turkish for coffee) is a local brand that launched their range of luxury body scrubs in July 2017. Currently they have two variants, Enliven with coffee and cinnamon, and Revive with coconut oil and Japanese matcha. Both smell absolutely incredible!

The scrubs are created using only locally sourced ingredients, helping to stimulate your skin as you massage off those dry layers. The scrub itself has a slightly wet texture so it’s easy to work with. I recommend you work it onto dry skin and then pop into the shower to rinse it off. Afterwards your skin is smoother, and the nourishing oils stay behind as a moisturising layer.

It is only available from their online shop, with free delivery in South Africa.

Diptyque Baies Candle

R1 305,

Dyptique Baies Candle 9Lives 1

I recently raved about the Diptyque Philosykos fragrance. Now imagine taking one of those scents and putting it into your home! The Baies candle has a bouquet of roses, blackcurrant leaves and ambergris, so it’s softly sweet and slightly green. Pure luxury!

If you’re in Jozi you can experience the whole Diptyque range at Skins in Sandton. Otherwise you can shop it online at

Lush Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner & Rose Jam Shower Gel (Christmas Limited Edition)

Body conditioner R295 for 225ml and shower gel R175 for 250g

Lush Rose Jam

If you’ve ever walked in the vicinity of a Lush store, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about here. You can smell the shop from a mile away, a symphony of fresh, sweet, decadent aromas spilling from those doors.

From all the Lush goodies, I am particularly fond of the Rose Jam shower gel (a special release during Christmas time) and the Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner. The scents are creamy and sweet, like the most delicious dessert you can think of.

The products pictured here are part of a Christmas gift box with the 100ml Rose Jam, 45g Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner and a Golden Pear Soap for R345. Treat yo’self.
