Summer means beach days, the smell of the salty ocean waves mixed with sweet fruit lollies and creamy soft serve. It means picnics outdoors, with clinking champagne flutes, crisp garden salads and picture-perfect sweet treats. It means flowing floral dresses, broad sun hats and sandals.

The sunny season is here, which calls for a fresh summer fragrance to accessorise your perfect outfit. Here are four new releases that are worth seeking out.

Michael Kors Wonderlust Sensual Essence

From R995, select department stores

Summer Fragrance Michael Kors Wonderlust

If you love the original Michael Kors Wonderlust fragrance, there’s a good chance you’ll enjoy this sensual reinterpretation. It maintains that white floral character, with a warm fruitiness that is perfect for summer.

The fragrance was inspired by that exhilirating feeling of taking on a new adventure – the thrill of fearless spontaneity and boundless escape – it is pretty much the ideal scent for the restless wanderer.

You’re drawn in with fruity floral notes including Nashi pear, black cherry, peony and pink pepper. This makes way for a warm, soft heart with notes of jasmine and orange blossom, before settling into cashmere wood, suede and amber.

I really love this fragrance. It is warm, soft, feminine and seductive, and it lasts really well.

La Vie Est Belle L’Éclat Eau de Parfum

R1499 for 50ml, select department stores

Summer Fragrance Lancome La Vie Est Belle L'Eclat 9Lives

I chose the original La Vie Est Belle as my wedding fragrance so it goes without saying that I have a soft spot for this scent.

The latest release follows that same deliciously intoxicating trend of its predecessors. It is built around Orange Blossom Absolute, enveloped by rose and jasmine, and illuminated by bergamot and tangy mandarin. The result is as decadent as a perfect dessert.

The bottle is equally mesmerizing, manufactured by master glassmakers Maison Pochet. Each of the 221 studs that adorn the bottle has five facets, with the angles honed by hand when the moulds were created so that each of them would spring to live when it catches the light.

Eau de Parfum Mademoiselle Rochas

From R795, Truworths

Rochas Mademoiselle 9Lives

Mademoiselle Rochas is that cheerful, bubbly young Parisian who we all imagine dancing down the Champs-Élysées.

Designed by Perfumer Anne Flipo, a nose of note, this new fragrance was designed to reflect the playfulness and impertinence of today’s Parisian woman – energetic, liberated, and in love with life.

It opens with a tangy, sparkling red fruit accord alongside crisp green ivy and sweet toffee apple. This opens into a explosive floral heart with rose petals, jasmine and violet. And finally it softens to warm, sweet sandalwood, ambergris, and musk.

If you love juicy, fruity floral fragrances, give it a go.

La Perla La Mia Perla Eau de Parfum

From R950, select department stores

La Perla La Mia Perla 9Lives

If you enjoy soft, woody, warm notes, then go give this one a try. I think this is one of those love it or hate it scents, simply because it’s not your typical feminine fragrance.

They’ve labelled it SolarOriental, bringing together all the notes into harmony instead of building them up in the typical pyramid structure. You have sparkling mandarin and white pepper alongside jasmine and white peony, enveloped by suede, sandalwood and musk.

It has taken a while to grow on me but now I really enjoy this sophisticated, silky perfume. I’ve love to hear your thoughts.

I am a lifestyle blogger from Cape Town trying to find the best ways to spend my time, take care of my body and express myself. I am slightly obsessed with fragrances, sneakers, Jamie Oliver and Masterchef Australia. Oh, and I probably drink way too much wine.
