Until March 2018, you can visit De Krans Wine Cellar in Calitzdorp to take part in the popular seasonal fruit pickings. From 16 – 27 December, you can pick some of the Oom Sarel Cling Peaches at R8 p/kg, and from 7 February till 4 March, you can pick your share of Hanepoot grapes at R7,50 p/kg*

This is a really fun family outing, available seven days a week from 09:00 till 14:00, except for Christmas Day. And while you’re in Port country, don’t forget to taste some of the award winning sweet stuff in the region. De Krans has a range of top quality port-style wines, including the Cape Vintage Reserve 2014, a Veritas Awards Double Gold medal winner in 2017, as well as the Tritonia Red 2015, which won the trophy for the Best Non-Bordeaux Red Blend at the 2017 Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show.

The farm also has a lovely little Deli so you can grab lunch in the vineyards. They serve a selection of hearty dishes and klein dorpie classics like sandwiches, burgers and salads.

You’re also in the heart of the Klein Karoo, so grab some local cheese, olives, olive oil, dried fruits and preserves on the way. Check out THIS POST for some tips on top pit stops.

For more information contact the farm on 044 213 3314, or email at dekrans@mweb.co.za.

*These dates are weather dependent, and may change slightly at short notice. To ensure you don’t miss out on the fun activity suited to the whole family, it is advisable to contact the farm prior to your planned visit, to confirm the picking dates.

I am a lifestyle blogger from Cape Town trying to find the best ways to spend my time, take care of my body and express myself. I am slightly obsessed with fragrances, sneakers, Jamie Oliver and Masterchef Australia. Oh, and I probably drink way too much wine.
