CHANEL Fall/Winter 2019-20 Ready-to-Wear Collection

With whispers of winter in the air, telling tales of icy winds and shimmering rain, it’s time for me to style my new wardrobe for the approaching cooler weather. Now, in this season of change, it comes down to layering and mixing and matching textures and fabrics. So, I looked to the CHANEL Winter 2019-20 Collection for inspiration. A mashup of flowing dresses, trousers, sweaters, fitted jackets, long coats and capes, I was immediately seduced by its elegantly whimsical touch kissed with just the right amount of clean-cut contemporary.

A snow-capped masterpiece

Conquered from the creative masterminds Karl Lagerfield (Chanel’s long-time creative director who passed away just a few weeks before the show) and Virginie Viard, the Grand Palais in Paris was metamorphosed to reflect a snow capped mountain village setting. With magical encapsulation of wintery elements, the look was reminiscent of Narnia in the wardrobe scene.

An interplay between feminine and masculine

The collection was, in essence, a masculine-feminine contradiction. Think soft, snowy contours offset with jutted clean-cut lines. This was showcased in a palette of winter white, neutral beige and black, enhanced by a dash of fuchsia and emerald green.

Dramatically tailored wide-legged trousers, layers of enveloping coats and capes are conjured from beautifully textured houndstooth, check, chevrons, quilts, tweed and tartan. These were complemented by flowing dresses, swirling tulle and ruffled white organza blouses, and further enhanced by flickering crystals and sparkling embroidery. Not to mention the accentuating accessories, from woollen scarves and leather bags to pearl earrings.

Here are a few of my favourites from the exquisite CHANEL Fall/Winter 2019-20 Ready-to-Wear range, some items that I dream about wearing:

Where elegance meets comfort, I’m a massive fan of the checkered patterned coat. Soft, warming and oh-so-stylish, its textured print offsets a simplistic white blouse and flowing trousers beautifully.

I adore the compilation of romantic silk, vibrant retro knitwear and chunky jewellery.

While this sequence sensation is not something you will see me wearing on a daily basis, I love how the tight blouse offsets the flowing pants, and the combination brought together impeccably with the belted waist.

It’s mirrored in the makeup

The makeup also enhanced the edgy feminine vibe of the CHANEL Fall-Winter 2019/20 collection. The models’ faces were as fresh as a beautiful, snowy winter’s day, juxtaposed with a strong masculine element shown in the prominently defined brows that echo the mountains surrounding the Chalet Gardénia.

For gorgeous brows, makeup artist Luca Pica recommends using the Crayon Sourcils to draw tiny upward hairs and then blend into the eyebrow hair using the Les Pinceaux De Chanel – Retractable Dual-Tip Brow Brush. A dash of the Le Ge Sourcils works wonders to diffuse the pencil and soften the definition of the brows.
