I had just managed to stop daydreaming about my trip to Paris at the end of the year when the new Chanel Fall 2017 collection dropped on my desk. And instantly I was back to practicing my oui oui and merci beaucoup, sporting Rouge Coco on my pout.

While I dreamed of Paris, the new collection was in fact inspired by a Californian road trip. Lucia Pica, Chanel Global Creative Makeup and Colour Designer, embarked to the golden state for inspiration, drawing from dawn mists and sunny coastlines to city lights and gritty downtown Los Angeles.

Chanel 3-in-1 Palette Essentielle

At the centerpiece for the collection is the Palette Essentielle, a three-in-one compact that is a dream for us girls who are always on the go. There are three palette variants, each with a blusher for cheeks and lips, highlighter and concealer – everything you need for a perfect for a quick touch up during the day.

The concealer has a really beautiful, balmy texture that glides onto your skin, giving good cover. The highlighter is equally gorgeous, giving a soft luminosity without that obvious shimmering or glittery quality.

The blusher can be used on your cheeks and lips, melting in to give a translucent touch of colour. The blush is also buildable so you can layer it until you’re happy, but I found a light dab was more than enough on my skin.

I tried the Palette Essentielle in Intense. It is also available in Clair and Medium.

Chanel Retractable Dual-Tip Concealer Brush

Chanel Retractabel Dual Tip Concealer Brush

This retractable brush is fantastic for traveling, and a nice companion for the Essentielle palette. It has a flat tip brush on one end and a fluffy blending brush on the other, which work together to give you seamless product application. I’d also use the blending brush to apply the highlighter or the Ombre Premiere eyeshadow.

Chanel Les 4 Ombres

The collection features two new eye shadow quartets, Road Movie and City Lights. As with the rest of the collection, Lucia Pica drew colour inspirations from moments on her trip. Road Movie features a green-blue, copper, stone beige and dark blue, inspired by the sun over the ocean. “There was the sea, with the sun coming from one side to create this beautiful coppery gold,” explains Pica, “and then this lighter, brighter blue and a darker blue, and the pavement looked this beautiful beige…it was an obvious palette. It was just right in front of me; I couldn’t escape.”

Personally I would use these as single shades, but they can be combined for a dramatic eyeshadow look.

Chanel Ombre Premiere

The Ombre Premiere mono shadows fills that need for an easy yet elegant eye look. I received the copper shade Memory and I am absolutely smitten. The texture is buttery and it blends like a dream, giving you a subtle shimmer and deep pigment.

The Fall 2017 collection sees two additions to the Ombre Premiere range, Urban and Memory.

Signature de Chanel Eyeliner Pen

If you wear liquid liner then this is a must-try. The pen has a super fine paint-brush tip that is incredibly easy to manoeuvre for perfect line.

Chanel Rouge Allure Ink in Highway

Allure in in Highway is probably my favourite lippie from the collection, particularly going into summer. The texture is velvety, drying into a soft matte finish, and the colour is fun and bright.

The Chanel Travel Diary collection has two shades, Lost and Highway.

Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet in First Light

I absolutely love the texture of lipstick. It creates a soft, velvet finish and feels lightweight and comfortable on your skin. They’ve launched two shades, Nightfall and First Light into the Fall 2017 collection. I received First Light, which is a warm red. Initially I thought it would be too warm against my skin tone but I actually love the way it pops.

Chanel Rouge Coco in Day Light

Rouge Coco in Day Light is a stunning nude. I think it’s slightly too light for my skin (or perhaps I’m just not one for nudes) but it would look gorgeous on fairer girls. You get a creamy formula and buttery blend.

The Rouge Coco lipstick is available in Experimental and Day Light.

Chanel Le Vernis

Chanel Le Vernis New Dawn and Horizon 9Lives

The Fall collection sees two new nail varnish shades, Horizon Line and New Dawn. These shades are definitely gorgeous for cooler weather but they can be just as beautiful in summer paired with luxe natural fabrics in soft pastel tones. Picture loose linen trousers, a statement sleeve top and these shades as a finishing touch. Perfect!
