Christmas is almost on us, and if I had the option (and the money) to head out for dinner rather than prepare a spread at home, I probably would. If you feel the same way, you’re in luck! I’ve compiled a list of spots where you can enjoy Christmas lunch without the hassle of cooking!
Cavalli Stud Estate, Stellenbosch

Executive Chef Michael Deg has prepared a seven-course set menu to entice his guests between 12:00 and 15:00 on Christmas Day. This definitely isn’t your mother’s Christmas spread, and includes dishes like crispy prawn dumplings, asparagus and goats cheese croquettes, herbed tuna, springbok loin and delicious (more traditional) desserts. Enjoy a three course Christmas spread at Kunjani Wines in Stellenbosch featuring three buffet-style starters including a smoked turkey summer salad, a farm-fresh veggie salad and salmon trout and baby beetroot salad. Oude Werf Hotel is one of Stellenbosch’s historical hotels, with great dining to boot! Treat yourself to their Christmas lunch which features starters of salmon trout terrine with prawns, mains of sage roasted turkey or baby chicken with apricot glazed gammon and crispy roasted potatoes and a deliciously traditional warm Christmas pudding. With starters like prawn cocktail trifle, savoury baked cheesecake (with bacon!) and watermelon & raspberry soup, it’s clear that Webersburg isn’t sticking to “traditional” Christmas fare. For mains, diners have a choice between brandy and fig sticky pork belly, roast baby chicken, Norwegian salmon and vegetarian risotto, and desserts include a gingerbread man ice cream, cinnamon and red wine peaches and dark chocolate fondant. His lunch and dinner menus offer choices like cardamom and carrot veloute, Franschhoek trout tartare, sous vide quail and more! For each course, diners have the option to choose between two different dishes and we all know variety is the spice of life!

Treat yourself to dishes such as a harissa-bulgur salad or glazed chicken ham with green beans, hearty potato-chorizo or chilled cucumber soup, glazed pork roast, seared line fish or springbok ragout and more! Desserts include eggnog cream, Valrhona chocolate mousse, a local cheese board and other delicious sweet treats.

Christmas Eve dinner at the Moody Lagoon
Enjoy a Christmas Eve dinner at the Moody Lagoon at Benguela Cove! Their four-course set menu offers fresh breads and charcuterie to start off with, which leads into a beetroot, goat’s curd, watermelon and basil salad. For mains, they’re offering the “Christmas Cow” featuring slow braised beef short rib, smoked apples and deep fried snails, and the special eggnog flan dessert will definitely be something to look forward to! They offer welcome drinks on arrival and the evening will include Christmas crackers!
