If you’re a coffee addict desperate to get your caffeine fix Stellenbosch is probably one of the best places to be! This little town in the winelands is definitely not lacking in the coffee shop department. I wouldn’t be surprised if you’re able to find at least one on every corner.
The problem is picking out the right one for you so I’ve put together a list of coffee shops you can go to on different occasions.
All Things Good
All Things Good is a beautiful, charming shop on Ryneveld Street and they are great! Their best selling point is their variety of options for vegetarians and vegans, which is something Stellenbosch really needs. They serve deluxe coffee but I do like the fact that their milk alternatives include almond-, soy- and coconut milk powder.
They also sell a variety of products like artisan ice cream (not vegan), matcha powder and granola. Their bagels are super good and healthy too!
Blue Crane Coffee Company
This little gem in Dorp Street is perfect for meeting up with loved ones. The coffee shop has a beautiful rustic vibe, and the small and quiet space makes for an intimate experience.
What better way to have a meeting with colleagues than in the private workroom at Blue Crane while enjoying the coffee that they concoct at the on-site brewery.
They sell their own coffee as well as some pretty rad art that is displayed on the walls. They are currently updating their menu and we can’t wait to see what they have in store for us!
Bootlegger’s coffee’s can be a little bit on the pricey side, but the artisan coffee is well worth it.
Their service is quick, the staff is friendly and the music is good. There is a constant vibe and energy that flows through. Not only is their coffee good, but their food is delicious and completely irresistible.
It’s also a great place to go if you’re looking for a delicious breakfast to go along with your cup of coffee.
Deluxe coffee is probably the best tasting coffee is town and what I love about them is the fact that they’ve got a few spots around Stellenbosch. There is Deluxe shop on Dorp Street, a stand at De Warenmark and their coffee is available at the Neelsie.
Their coffee is standardly priced, and they have a small variety of sweet treats to choose from. If you like the hustle-and-bustle busy vibe I’d recommend going to Deluxe in De Warenmark, or visit Deluxe in Dorp Street if you’re keen to sit outside under some lovely shade.
Häzz is a proudly South African brand of coffee and a favorite amongst Stellenbosch locals. The café is located in Ryneveld street and is well worth the visit.
Their prices are standard and their coffee is delicious! They also have a good variety of sweet treats to accompany your cup of joe. If you’re keen on trying a few trendy drinks like a tumeric or beetroot latte, they’ve got you covered, or if you prefer your coffee dairy free they have an almond milk subsitute.
Häzz is great for a quick takeaway cup of coffee, or to catch up on a few emails. P.S. they have free wi-fi!
Kompanjie is a small, quaint coffee shop filled with vintage décor and super friendly staff. It’s a quiet little spot at the top of Dorp Street and definitely a favourite of mine. The coffee is good and their prices are standard. They also have a few trendy drinks on their menu like matcha-, beetroot- and turmeric lattes.
This is the best place to go for a quick cup of coffee with a friend. If you’re planning on eating something this is probably not the best option as the amount of baked goods they sell is rather limited. However, if you’re looking for a little sweet treat I’d recommend a bite of their carrot cake!
Xpresso is relatively new to Stellenbosch and I’m pretty sure it’s already a hit amongst students, the reason being that EVEYRTHING on their menu is R10! Their coffee isn’t half bad and they have quite a selection of sweet treats, pastries and sandwiches to choose from.
It’s a good place to go if you’re low on cash and want to grab a quick cup-of-joe-to-go. The vibe is good with fun music, friendly staff and super quick service. They also have soy milk for those who live dairy-free. The only downside is their lack of options between single and double shot.
