La Petite Ferme in Franschhoek has one of the most spectacular views I’ve ever seen, with the entire valley stretched before you, vineyards creeping up the steep mountain slopes and farm dams glistening in the afternoon light. It looks like something cut out of a picture book. So if you’re looking for a good spot to enjoy some sundowners, this will do just fine. From 9 December 2016 till 13 January 2017, the wine estate will treat you to a selection of hand-crafted cocktails, delicious food and live music from 16:00 to 18:00 each Friday.
To celebrate the occasion they have created a menu of special cocktails. Try the Pretty Lisa, with vodka, stawberries, lime juice, lemonade and fresh basil. You can also sip on the Mariano, a mix of vodka and berries with mango and lime juice, finished with fresh mint. If gin is more your style, try The Spa, made with fresh cucumber, lime juice, fresh mint and a touch of sugar. Or go for The Garden, with grapefruit, lime juice, mixed peppers and coriander.
La Petite Ferme has recently seen a revamp, with refurbishments and upgrades to the venue, and a new summer menu showing their classic crowd-favourites alongside fresh creations. It is also worth trying their range of red and white wines, and pop in at the deli for treats to take home. And if you want to make a weekend out of it, consider a stay in their rooms – the ones I saw were absolutely stunning.
The #FestiveFriday sundowner parties will take place on 9, 16 and 30 December, and again on 6 and 13 January 2017.
