How to explain this series… Take Vampire Diaries, but as fairies, and send them to a Hogwarts-like school where they explore their powers, all while they deal with a Regina George lookalike and fall in love with the school’s Austin Ames.

Interesting… tell me more!

This Netflix series, Fate: The Winx Saga is written and produced by Brian Young, who is known for writing and producing everyone’s favourite vampire love triangle, The Vampire Diaries. It is based on an Italian cartoon series, Winx Club, co-produced by Nickelodeon. This animated series draws inspiration from Japanese manga, and its creator Iginio Straffis’ response to a world focused on male heroes. He also wanted to explore the psychological side of transitioning to adulthood.

The result being a young adult series focused on female characters and female friendships. Abigail Cowen, that portrays the role of Bloom, is also known for her role as Dorcas in the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, while most of the other girls are starring in their first on-screen roles. The lore and fictional world created for the series is dense and intricate with loads of secrets and generational intricacies to keep the adventure and mystery going.

If this tickles your fancy and if you love diving into new fictional worlds, Fate: The Winx Saga is definitely for you. It is a light, adventure-filled race across a fictional world that will definitely keep you entertained. The series will not win any awards anytime soon, but as far as the plot goes, the idea is quite solid. Oftentimes, it is clear that the actors are still quite green, but that kind of adds to the charm of a series with the teenage characteristics of angst and awkwardness.
