I’m a little hesitant to get too excited about this. I mean, if 2016 has taught us anything it’s that revivals are dangerous territory. Ten minutes into Fuller House and I wanted to barf and the internet had a field day with Ghost Busters. But I am dipping my toes into the pool of hopeful anticipation, allowing myself to become slightly giddy about the fact that I will get to revisit one of my favourite fictional worlds.
One reason for this is the need for closure. I re-watched Gilmore Girls from start to finish last year and once again when I got to the end it felt, well, cut short. Browse the internet and you’ll find similar feelings from fans and even cast members. We never got to properly conclude the story we’d been following for years and years.
Now Netflix has bravely decided to give them a proper send-off. Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life will bring Lorelai, Emily, Rory and countless more Stars Hollow characters back to our screens, picking up nine years after we last dropped in on the town.
At this time the two girls are once again facing a major turning point in their lives. Lorelai’s relationship with Luke is at an unnerving standstill, Rory’s budding journalism career in New York has stalled before it’s even begun and Emily’s world is turned upside down following the untimely passing of her beloved husband, Richard.
Gilmore girls: A Year in the Life is told through four 90-minute chapters, each spanning one season: Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall, and promises more quick-witted dialogue and heart-felt scenes that will have us longing for a simpler small-town life.
It will hit Netflix on 25 November. Okay fine, I’m definitely going to watch hit.
