I’m excited to try this one out.
The Bus Stop has arrived at Stellenbosch Vineyards, serving up burgers, pizzas and waffles from their big yellow 180 Bedford bus on Welmoed Farm.
They have put a unique twist on the food truck concept, with a bus that has been refurbrished into a bar serving Arinston Bay Infusions, as well as wines from Welmoed and Stellenbosch Vineyards.
They will also be serving up craft beers alongside a menu developed around wood fired pizzas and burgers from the open air kitchen. Try The Conductor, with two wood-fired patties and smoked mozzarella, or Magic Forest, a mushroom inspired thin based pizza. They are also offering salads, as well as waffles with a selection of mouthwatering toppings.
The outdoor venue has been furnished in a fun vintage style with refurbished bus chairs. Bus shelter inspired booths will also be dotted around the grass surrounding The Bus Stop, for guests wanting a bit more privacy.
The concept came from Stephen van Rooyen, Head of Innovations at Stellenbosch Vineyards, who played with the idea of a bus as something signifying an exciting journey, a place of social interaction and most likely the end of the working day or start of the weekend. There are also plans in the works to take the concept further by creating a mobile bus that will travel the country, showcasing at festivals and private events.
The Bus Stop opens to the public from 1 December 2016. It joins the Tasting Room on the farm, which offers platters, wine tasting and unique pairings, and Bistro 13 restaurant, offering a more formal dining experience focusing on the premium Credo wine range.
The Bus Stop will be open from Thursday to Sunday, 11:30 – 22:00. The venue can also be hired for private functions. Head to thebusstop.co.za for more.
