I have carefully curated my shoe collection. For me, shoes need to be stylish, timeless, versatile and, most importantly, comfortable. This is why I am completely obsessed with one of this season’s top shoe trends – the low block heel.
Block heels have established themselves as a wardrobe staple over the last few seasons and recently they’ve dropped a few inches. The style is fantastically retro, easy to wear and a perfect way to dress-up an everyday outfit. I love wearing them with jeans, culottes or a calf-grazing midi skirt. They’d also go perfectly with a pair of flared linen shorts.
I recently discovered this pair from Green Cross. Made from Kid Suede, they’re first and foremost made for comfort but also nail the trend. I chose the light brown variant, which made me think of a gem I could have discovered in a vintage store – they have a timeless elegance to them that I adore.
The brown leather is also easy to mix into my wardrobe, which is built around earthy tones, denim, white and black. I like buying into a colour scheme, which means that I can easily match up various elements for easy, everyday outfits.
Over the last few years Green Cross has become a favourite shoe brand of mine. With a factory in Cape Town, they provide work for thousands of local craftsmen who are hands-on every step of the way. I visited their factory last year and was impressed to see how diligently they work to send only perfect products to the stores, with each pair receiving a careful final inspection before being boxed up.
It makes a huge difference knowing that I’m buying quality, supporting our local industry and that the workers who have made my shoes are looked after.
So, keen to own a pair like these?
