Nestled between the majestic mountains of the Franschhoek Valley, Haute Cabrière is the perfect lunch spot with a view. On a breezy summer’s day, I had the pleasure of tasting Haute Cabrière’s new à la carte lunch menu.

While sitting on the terrace, I was astounded by the scenic, luscious green valley and contrasting bold mountains. The fresh air and quiet atmosphere created a feeling of comfort and relaxation, making it exactly the type of place I want to spend my Saturdays.

The à la carte menu, which has a variety of delicate options to choose from, is specially prepared by chefs Nic van Wyk and Westley Muller. Not only does the menu offer stunning items but it is very well-priced for something of this calibre. A three course meal – which includes a starter, main and dessert – is only R395 and well worth it! For starters I would recommend the Seared Tuna with Sesame Seed Crackers, Avocado and Spiced Ponzu, if you’d like to try something that is fresh, light and incredibly delicious (trust me, you’re going to want to have seconds!).

On the mains side, I was most impressed with the perfectly Chargrilled Venison Loin with Braised Kale, Sweet Potato Pavé and spiced Malay Honey Jus. This was by far one of the best mains I’ve had and it paired perfectly with a glass of 2015 Pinot Noir Reserve wine. If you would like to skip the meat, give their handmade Green Pasta with Basil, Lemon and Olive Oil Sauce, Parmesan Cheese and Roasted Cherry Tomato and Toasted Pine Nuts, a go.

For dessert, their Raspberry Pavlova with Raspberry Jelly, Vanilla Panna Cotta, Peach Sorbet and Passion Fruit Curd ended off the lunch perfectly. This dessert is an absolute must on a sweltering summer’s day!
