Summer is alive in the Cape Winelands and what better way to enjoy the songs of summer than a hike amongst the vineyards? There is something so magical about exercising your lungs in a natural setting, where you can breathe in fresh mountain air and the smell of ripe grapes, rich soil and earthy fynbos, while feasting your eyes on spectacular views. Luckily for us, there are a number of hiking trails for us to explore on wine farms right here in the Cape Winelands. We’ve compiled a few of our favourites to add to your 2019 weekend bucket list.

La Motte

R45, Franschhoek, 7691

Experience the Franschhoek Valley in all its full glory and take a trip along the La Motte farm trail. This is a perfect group activity where they don’t allow more than 10 people. It’s time to immerse yourself in the joys of indigenous nature of the mountainous region surrounding the farm. Not to mention the lovely vistas of valley! Starting at the La Motte tasting room, this 5 km route has a 2 km grade 1B rating. So, you basically have to be fairly fit to complete it. For all the hardcore hikers, you can definitely complete this hike under 2 hours, otherwise it will take approximately 3 hours.

For those looking for interesting tidbits on flora and fauna of area, go for the guided hikes running every Monday. Rest assured their knowledgeable tour guides will show you the way and you will also receive a hiking trail map, a bottle of water and light refreshments afterwards at the lapa.
