I tried something new with Bioderma | 9Lives | Beauty & Style

All my life I never really invested a lot when it comes to my skin regime. Spending loads of money on expensive brand name products with their miracle promises never made sense, and for the last two years I have switched to a more natural approach to my skincare. Then recently I decided to give something else a go, the Bioderma Sebium Night Peel, and I couldn’t be happier with the results.

Bioderma recently launched the new Sebium Night Peel and for the last 4 weeks I have been applying it every evening. Most of my life I have been blessed with good skin, not struggling with acne, oiliness or dehydration. Puberty hit me a little later in life, one could say I’m a ‘late-bloomer’. When I turned 21 I didn’t only become articulate, I also received a belated series of unwanted acne. Luckily, I have outgrown the bumps on my face but unfortunately it left some marks and blemishes. I constantly get up close in the mirror inspecting every little mark that was left behind.

What, when and how?

Through this journey with Bioderma I learnt that excess sebum causes pores to dilate and produce irregular skin texture. “Bioderma Sebium Night Peel is a serum-gel that helps to gently exfoliate the skin, reduce pore size, control sebum as well as improve skin tone and clarity. Suitable for combination or oily, acne-prone skin.”

First things first, you have to ensure your face is clean. I used Bioderma’s Micellar Water with a cotton swab to gently wipe my face. Once your face is clean, you add a pea-sized amount of the Sebium Night Peel to the tips of your fingers and softly spread over the skin, and then go to sleep.

When you first apply the peel, your skin feels a bit tight, but this subsides after a few minutes. What is really important is to remember to rinse your face the next morning with water, and after rinsing I preferred to use a light day cream. This is a four-week cycle and can be performed four times per annum. After one week of applying the peel nightly, I noticed a massive difference in my complexion. I first noticed a smoother, tighter texture.

Although I never struggled with oily skin, this has changed a bit when I moved from Potchefstroom to Cape Town. I’m not really sure whether it’s because of the drastic humidity change, but for the first time the struggle has been real. The most irritating thing has been the excess oil around noon on a day out. While I was using the night peel, I noticed my skin balancing out more.

The Result?

After about 3 weeks of keeping this routine I could most definitely notice my skin being more vibrant and even. Oil wasn’t a problem anymore, but instead I had this natural glow accompanying my smoother skin. My face started feeling cleaner and that was a feeling I didn’t realise I missed out on while following my former cleansing routine. I learned that even though you use a face wash and/or a scrub, there are still loads of residue left behind and that it is crucial to assure that your face is left clean. For this I used a white facecloth to dry my face to inspect if I cleansed my face properly.

Following the last day I used the peel I noticed my skin feeling fresh and renewed. I now maintain my skin by cleansing it thoroughly with Bioderma’s Micellar Water daily and applying a gentle moisturiser.  This is a timely process, but I have seen it to be true, that a little more effort with your skin regime goes a long way.
