The Knysna Oyster Festival will take place from 29 June till 8 July, once again providing an ideal winter break for the whole family, whether you go for the marathons or the marathon oyster eating.

Following the devastating fires in the town last year, the regrowth of the region has been phenomenal, and visitors to the picturesque Garden Route area can look forward to more than 100 activities spread over the 10 day festival.

The Knysna Oyster Festival has become popular largely due to the fantastic outdoor sports lineup. This year’s sporting lineup includes mountain bike events on Saturday 30 June, with 80km, 50km, 30km, and 15km routes, in addition to the newer 30km E-bike race.

The Momentum Knysna Cycle Tour will take place on Sunday 1 July; and offers a 115km and 50km route.  In an exciting development this year, the Momentum Knysna Cycle Tour has confirmed that the 115km road race, along with the 80km and 50km mountain bike races will be seeding qualifying events for the 2019 Cape Town Cycle Tour.

The Momentum Knysna Forest Marathon & Half Marathon are two of South Africa’s most-hotly contested running races and will take place on Saturday 7 July. Runners can look forward to experiencing the breath-taking views over the Knysna Lagoon towards the Knysna Heads as they approach the finish line, providing all the motivation they need to hit that personal best.

Enter the marathons at knysnamarathonclub.com/forest-marathon. Cycle tour entries can be found at knysnacycle.co.za.

Even if you’re not entering these challenges, you can still have a great time at the festival. Indulge in oysters and bubbles, concerts, live comedy and fashion shows. Parents will also be excited about the Momentum Health Kiddies Area which will keep the little ones busy.

After fires ravaged this beautiful town, I am excited to see it back in full swing.
