First, we fell in love with Damon and Stefan Salvatore. We tolerated Elena Gilbert, but formed part of the Caroline Forbes girl gang. Then, along came Niklaus, Elijah and Rebekah Mikaelson, and we knew that although we were secretly attracted to bad boy Klaus, we should be falling for the charming Elijah.
While The Originals headed to New Orleans and things wrapped up, or kind of, in Mystic Falls, we were left without our supernatural fix. But no need to worry, Klaus and Hayley Marshall’s daughter, Hope, will soon be heading off to boarding school at the old Salvatore house, headed by none other than Alaric.

What we know thus far
The series, Legacies, kicks off on 25 October 2018 on the CW, where Hope will start her first year at the Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted. The series will take the form of a supernatural high school drama, and steer away from the complicated love triangles that Vampire Diaries had at the centre of its narrative.
What is also very exciting is that the show takes a look at sexuality in a much more progressive way. The teenagers at the Salvatore school are all sexually fluid and don’t feel the need to label themselves, ensuring some intricacies that the series’ predecessors could not address.
But what if I did not watch Vampire Diaries or The Originals?
Not to worry! Described as a mix between Harry Potter and Buffy, early reviews state that the pilot does enough in terms of explaining the basics for new entrees to the Vampire Diaries / The Originals universe. The other good news is that the high school kids will be played by 17 year olds this time around, and not 30-somethings barely attending high school anyway.
Fans of the original series will be glad to see the return of one or two familiar faces. Other than Alaric, you can also keep an eye out for Sheriff Mat Donovan. Alaric’s own twins, Josie and Lizzie, will also be attending the school, and of course the setting will be the famous Mystic Falls.
