City Strolls in my Levi's Katy Sneakers + GIVEAWAY | 9Lives
Reading Time: 3 min

The best way to explore Cape Town is on foot.

Park your car and stroll through the CBD, along the promenade or through the V&A Waterfront, and stop at tiny restaurants for coffee, craft ice cream, cocktails and all sorts of delicious, creative dishes. The best places are often those you’d miss if you whipped past in a car.

For this reason, you’ll find that most Cape Town locals opt for sneakers. Aside from being fiercely cool and comfortable, they’re also wonderfully practical to get about quickly.

This weekend we had one of those absolutely perfect spring days in the city and decided to play tourist at the Waterfront – the perfect excuse to break in my new Levi’s Katy sneakers (R699) from their Spring Summer Collection.

The V&A has seen massive expansions over the last few years and I actually prefer skipping the main building and strolling through various extensions. Grab lunch at the Market on the Warf, browse local designer fashion at the Watershed, and head to the Silo district for some art and epic sundowner spots.

We grabbed lunch at the Market, followed by some insanely good Speculoos ice cream from Unframed, which tastes like spiced cookies. It’s sooo good.

With the sweet tooth satisfied, we strolled over to the ZEITZ MOOCA, the Museum of Modern Contemporary Art that recently opened at the Silo district. If you haven’t been, it is definitely worth a visit. I would also recommend joining a guided tour, which will give you much better insight into the artworks on display.

Our art outing was followed by drinks on the roof of the new Raddison Red, a very cool new spot with a vibrant, artistic decor style, swimming pool, and a view that stretches all the way from Table Mountain to the Waterfront.

My best way to end a weekend is with a stroll on the Sea Point promenade. On a good day you’ll find all sorts of people – runners, cyclists and skateboarders, people walking their dogs or playing soccer on the grass, families having picnics, and kids climbing over the various art sculptures. I love the community feel, and the incredible views as the sun dips into the water.

So next time you’re in the city, put on your most comfortable kicks and go for a stroll. It’s the very best way to soak up summer.

My favourite summer outing hmmm…. I would have to say a picnic at the dam on a friend’s farm nearby. We live out in the sticks and are about an hour from the ocean, so the best thing to do nearby on a perfect summer day, is to head to one of the most beautiful spots I’ve ever been to. Our friend’s farm has the most spectacular dam, surrounded by green hills and lush vegetation. Lilies and flowers grow wild and the oaks are massive and ancient here. They grow along the bank and there is a special place where we always set up our picnic. A clearing in this forest of oaks within a few metres of the water, deep shade and old logs set up in perfect positions for benches and tables. It’s like something out of a picture book and I wish I could send you some pics. Our children swim in the dam bobbing the odd water-lily on their heads and floating in head-to-toe mudpacks while we wallow in peace and serenity in our forest sanctuary watching them, surrounded by perfect natural beauty. It’s so quiet and tranquil and there is no other place like it for the perfect summer outing.

  25. Long Beach walks is our best specifically Gordon’s Bay and Strand beaches

So I just moved back to CT after being in Stellenbosch for 4 years.
Stellenbosch is a walking town. Everyone walks because everything is so close. My favourite thing to do there is head to the Gelato ice cream shop in church street to grab a sweet treat, then make my way to the botanical garden, a greem sanctuary im a bustling student town. I love sitting in the botanical garden to read or exploring every nook and cranny.
When im im cape town though, i enjoy seeing the shops in sea point maim road then hopping over to the Mojo market to enjoy some food and music. Afterwards we usually walk to the beach.
I spend about 70% of my day walking around as i dont drive yet, or never found the need to (living in Stellenbosch and all) but i think I’ll keep the walking tradition alive as much as i can in cape town. Sorry for the ramble.

  32. My favourite summer outing is starts with a walk from Camps Bay through a adventurous walk up to the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, where I enjoy a laid back picnic and enjoy the scenery. best part is while at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden I can walk around and enjoy the pleasant variety of plants plus play games or find activities to do while wearing a comfy stylish pair of Levi’s .

My husband, my sister and her husband love outdoor adventures. We’re always going on hikes, camping or any physical activities throughout the Western Cape.

My favourite was just after we got married and it was our first weekend away after everything… We went to Tweede Tol in Lamietberg and it was so amazing.

The hiking trails involved swimming… The waterfalls were beautiful and there was a baboon called Jasper, who stole shoes LOL.

Another time I loved was when we took a hike up Lions Head… It was tiring but so worth it.

Slowly but surely ticking off our bucket list of things to do in the Western Cape.

I love to do photography missions with my friend around different parts of Cape town. So basically we walk around a lot and just stop and snap whenever we feel its a good spot. But the hunt is into the smallest most obscure places you’ll ever go because those make for the best spots.

  39. Lynnith Andreou Reply

Hi there! My favourite summer outing is definitely a day at our favourite beach, packed with lots of treats, cold drinks, and sundowners. I love the way the kids just immerse themselves in the sand sea and sun, and I get to sit back, more or less, aah. x

  40. I stay in Port Elizabeth so my favourite summer outings are a little bit different ?
I like beach hopping from beach to beach starting at Sardinia bay and then moving to seaview and finally ending off in summerstrand. Short little road trips to jeffreys bay or sedgefield with friends just for the fun of it . Speaking of friends the late summer nights sitting round a fire, under the stars just enjoying each other company. Theres so many things to love about summer ?

  41. Well I’m from Johannesburg and I just love the scenery of the city as well as the nature it has, so being at the botanical gardens around joburg as well as going to certain lakes and meeting up with friends and family. NorthCliff water Tower, is a beautiful location to watch the sunset.

In Cape Town, going to the beach is number one, clifton especially, watching the sunset there is absolutely beautiful. Going on a hike at Chapmans peak is always on my list, because I believe on keeping fit.

With all of these activities I usually have 1 or two pairs of shoes in the car, 1 would be sandals for pictures and 2 definitely would be sneakers for pictures as well as the walking. Comfort first.

  42. hi=)

I have a map for each of the region with all the wine farms available, so we will pick a area like Elgin and slowly work our way through all of the available wine farms.

OR I adore heading to Kalkbay for some delicious food from The Harbour house and then to Cape to Cuba for cocktails.

Lastly, sunset drinks on the beach any day of the week is always a win!

  43. Favorite summer outing? Definitely touring the wine lands… what’s better than an ice cold glass of chenin in the sun?

I love the Levi’s brand!! I recently went camping at the Baths in Citrusdal. It was so relaaaaaaxing with absolutely no stress, no signal and definitely not a thing to worry about. Fresh air, camp fires and swimming pools for days. I loved and enjoyed every moment.

I have a lot of summer outing places such as the beach and going out to markets but going camping has been by far my favourite

  48. Sneakers are my Jam, a sunset picnic on signal hill with campers and good cheese, after a day beaching, is always a win for me…?

  49. My favourite summer outing is walking down to the beach to have amazing waffles! I’m from Pretoria so I don’t get to do cool things like that often 😛

  50. I’m originally from Port Elizabeth, but I’m studying in Cape Town. I’ve been here for 3 years now and absolutely love exploring the variety of coffee shops that the Mother City has to offer (way more exciting than small-town PE). One of my best adventures was discovering the Woodstock Exchange. I was staying in a res in Observatory, and one weekend my boyfriend and I decided we’d take a walk along Main Road. We ended up in Woodstock and somehow came across the Woodstock Exchange. I was completely mind blown by the layout and design of the building. Needless to say, we had coffee at Rosetta Roastery followed by lunch at Superette (which is still one of my favourite spots to date).

  51. I just wanna say I’m in love with this shoes!! ???. My friends and I love to go to the river in Kleinmond it’s really a lot of fun, the water is lovely and getting to hang out with you friends is always good. It’s a 1h30 drive from Cape Town, but its worth it. After Kleinmond we take a drive down to Strand Beach and catch some waves there, and end it off watching the sunset with our favorite ice-cream at the ice-cream down the road. Crossing my fingers for this giveaway.

I love summer. Always have. As a child, I loved the warmth
and the freedom and the fireflies. As a
teenager, I loved the freedom from school and the long, lazy days spent by the pool. There
is more time (longer days!) and more happiness (how hard it is for me to be sad
when the sun is shining!). I am enjoying the last days of Summer with tanned skin and sun-kissed hair. My Favourite Summer outing/ summer plans: …. Time for an
adventure/ time to relax. Time for ice cream and frozen yogurt, night walks after
the sun goes down, flip flops and bare feet, sun rises and sun sets, afternoon
naps, watermelon and strawberries and blueberries, tank tops, sun dresses. Paint my nails bright orange and bask in the sun! Neon colors, outdoor concerts, beach chairs, iced coffee, sand in my toes, 8pm runs IN Levi’s Katy sneakers and wearing big sunglasses! There’s nothing
quite like summertime foods to remind me of how great summer is. There are
certain things I love to eat during the summer that I rarely have any other
time of the year — watermelon, corn on the cob, and fruit salad being three of
my favourite. Life’s too short not to enjoy the beautiful season of summer.
Hard as it might be to step away from my desk, I’m going to take a day or two
off this summer to just relax and enjoy the season.

My favourite Summer outing started with taking a MetroRail train to Cape Town for Tygerberg, early one morning, with some friends.
We then decided to get My-City bus-cards so that we could get to far places a lot easier.
After a bit of getting lost, we stumbled across a Earth Fair Market, and managed to tag along to a free walking tour of Cape Town from there.
The walking tour guide took us through a lot of interesting places, and one place that my friends and I decided to stop at was the National Gallery at the end of the Gardens.
We managed to see fabulous exhibitions the history of Newspaper Cartoons in South Africa, and an exhibition on the South African Native Choir.

As it was reaching evening time,My friends and I decided that it would be a good time to head over to the Art Gallery scene which was just a 5 minute walk away. Since it was First Thursdays (the primary reason why we chose that date) we were able to visit all of the galleries free of charge. We managed to pick up a map at the first gallery that we visited, and that gave us a detailed list of all the places and the routes we had to take.
Sadly, our evening was cut a little short when is began raining quite hecticly.
Luckily, we managed to catch a a bus to Canal Walk which made it easier for us to get back home.

All in all, it was a fantastic time, and a great experience exploring the Mother City.
