Two new Avene face creams you should try | 9Lives

It’s like clockwork. As soon as June rolls around, my skin becomes dry, flaky and irritated. I’m one of those people who need to make a big adjustment in my skincare routine going into winter. Same? Then I’m happy to tell you about two new face creams from French skincare brand, Eau Thermale Avene, one that is a great fit for the warmer months (or oilier skin types), and one that is fantastic for dry, winter-ravaged skin.

The A-Oxitive range launched in South Africa earlier this year, consisting of day and night creams, a serum and an eye cream. The range specifically targets the damage caused by environmental pollution and UV rays, helping to protect your cells against harmful free radicals and oxidative stress. The day cream contains a combination of Vitamin C and E, and helps to shield your cells, neutralizing free-radicals and reducing potential damage. The night cream works to boost cell activity, with Retinaldehyde (a form of Retinol) and Pro-Vitamin E.

I tried the entire range and I can say that I loved the way my skin looked while using it. I did feel the eye cream was a bit light, and my skin felt a bit dry in the evenings when using the night cream. In the end I settled for a different night routine, but stuck with the day cream.

I found the Smoothing Water-Cream to be a brilliant balance between nourishing and lightweight, and it works brilliantly under makeup. I am also a big fan of the vitamin boost that comes with it, which complements an SPF to reduce early aging. Plus those who’ve used Vitamin C in their routines will know that it delivers the most incredible glow.

I’m not a huge fan of the added fragrance but I also didn’t experience any signs of irritation while using this day cream, and the brand has assured us that the fragrance chosen is hypoallergenic.

Eau Thermale Avene Hydrance Aqua-Gel

All hail the one who first invented the Aqua Gel. This new wave of face creams has a light, gel texture so that you get a boost of hydration without an overly heavy, sticky skin feel. You can read about a few of my other favourites here [https://9lives.co.za/best-moisturiser-dry-skin-south-africa/].

I love this moisturiser so much! The Hydrance Aqua-Gel has a cool feel when you first apply it and leaves a dewy, moist feeling. This quickly absorbs to leave your skin satin-soft, and quenched. And while I’m not general big on fragranced skin care, this scent is clean and comforting. After only a few days of using it, I experienced a massive improvement in my skin.

The moisturiser works to strengthen your skin’s natural barrier, which helps to prevent moisture loss. Their key ingredient is a Cohederm complex, with a high concentration of their signature Thermal Spring Water to boost hydration. This works with Sodium Hyaluronate (a form of Hyaluronic Acid) that attracts water to the skin, and Vitamin E that offers protection against free radicals.

It can be used day and nights, all over the face.
