Summer is in full swing and I am now facing the sweltering heat of the Cape Winelands on a daily basis. The situation calls for light, airy fabrics, shady sun hats and the freshest summer fragrances.
I’ve recently been introduced to a handful of gorgeous summer scents that perfectly suit this time of the year. They each capture a different element of the season: days next to the beach breathing in the salty ocean air, platters of freshly cut fruit, ice cold juice and soft ice cream.
Are you looking for a new fragrance? Take a look:
Elie Saab Girl of Now Eau de Parfum
From R840, select department stores
Girl of Now is a fragrance for the fun, lighthearted girl who lives in the moment. It is sparkling but still sophisticated with bright top notes and a soft heart.
Perfumers Sophie Labbé and Dominique Ropion built the scent around the an almond accord – yes, like the nut. It has been enveloped in top notes of pear, mandarin and freshly-roasted pistachio, leading into a heart of orange blossom, almond essence, white jasmine and magnolia. And finally it settles into warm notes of tonka bean and creamy almond milk.
Elie Saab consistently produces some of my favourite fragrances and this one is no different. If you want something unique and refreshing for summer, go give it a try.
Mont Blanc Lady Emblem L’Eau
From R745, Edgars, Foschini, Red Square & Truworths
L’Eau is the latest variant in the Lady Emblem family and I think it is beautiful! It has been developed for the independent and confident woman, always in motion, but who knows when to slow down and take a breath for herself.
The juice was inspired by a summer garden “of citrus trees and fresh roses,” explains Sonia Constant, who created the fragrance. It opens with fruity accents: Mandarin leaf, white peach and lychee. At the heart you’ll pick up a bouquet pf roses, enhanced by soft magnolia. And at the base they’ve included musks, blond cedar and creamy benzoin.
The result is a sparkling, floral-aquatic scent that is delicate but also daring.
L’Eau d’Issey Eau de Toilette pour l’été (Limited Edition)
R995 for 100ml, Edgars and Red Square
Developed by master perfumer Alberto Morillas, this vibrant summer fragrance captures that moment of bright sunlight bouncing from the ocean waves.
It is radiant and feminine, with top notes of tangy grapefruit and lychee, blending into a heart of passion fruit and guava, before settling into the heart of silky vanilla and woody base notes.
If you are looking for something vibrant and sunny, go try it.
Kenzo World Eau de Parfum
From R945, Edgars and Red Square
If you haven’t watched the ad for Kenzo World, go do that NOW, I’ll wait.
The scent itself captures that same bold playfulness. It is unashamedly sweet, with juicy red fruits in the top notes, supported by a floral heart of peony and jasmine. The key note of the fragrance, however, is Ambroxan, which has a similar quality to sweet woods and amber. But it is more about how it amplifies and compliments the other notes in the scent.
The result is juicy and, I think, delicious. If you like sweet fruity floral scents, go take a whiff.
