It’s a new month (how is it November already?!) and time to round up all my favourite new beauty launches. I’ve got some stunning hair goodies, skincare, and makeup, as well as a beautiful fragrance that’s going to be perfect for all your upcoming beach parties. Take a look:
1. Moroccanoil Texture Clay, Dry Texture Spray and Beach Wave Mousse
(R385 each, select salons)
This range sets out to give your hair texture and body like a sea-salt spray would, while still nourishing your hair. The clay contains a blend or argan oil, shea butter and then bentonite clay for styling, while the Beach Wave Mousse has UV absorbers to protect hair from sun damage.
The clay is like a wax that can be applied to your ends for a slightly messy, wind-swept finish, and the Dry Texture Spray is brilliant for body and definition. I’m obsessed. I found the Beach Wave Mousse made my hair a bit hard and sticky, but it does give a lot of volume.
2. Invisibobble Secret Garden Collection
(R80 for pack of 3, select salons and retailbox.co.za)
The latest collection from Invisibobble is all kinds of pretty. The hairband is made of artificial resin making it water and sweat resistant, and the smooth surface means less breakage while the spiral shape gives better grip than standard hairbands. It also can’t absorb water which means it doesn’t tangle in wet hair, so it’s brilliant for beach days.
3. essence Cut-Out Manicure Stencils
These are a really fun way to jazz up your manicure. The kit contains a nice variety of stickers that you can use to create pattern nail art. Stick it on before applying your colour nail polish, wait for it to dry completely before pulling the sticker off, and then follow with a top coat. The colour is another newbie from the essence gel nail polish range in shade 83 Pretty Cool Life. I love.
4. essence Light Up Your Face Luminizer Palette
This trio of highlighters have super fine, light reflecting pigments for a soft glowing effect. You can play around with a light pearl, intensive shimmer or a golden glow finish.
5. Labello Blackberry Shine Lip Balm
(R21,99, leading retailers and pharmacies)
This is the latest addition to the Labello Fruity Shine lip balm range and I think it’s super pretty. It gives a subtle plum tint that looks lovely on light, olive and dark skin tones, with a comfortable, light lip feel, good hydration and a delicious scent.
6. Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge
(R399, Lancôme counters at select department stores)
25 years after its creation, Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge has reinvented itself with a collection of 25 seductive shades. The collection consists of Matte and Cream shades, ranging from pure nudes to intense reds. I tried a red shade called Isabella and a popping pink called Le Rose Persan, both of which delivered on colour intensity, with a creamy lip feel. They also lasted well, fading to a soft tint. I did find the pink colour a bit tricky to reapply. The best is to take off the excess with a tissue and then start fresh.
7. Elizabeth Arden Always Red Femme EDT
(R895 for 100ml, elizabetharden.co.za)
I think this scent is delicious for a night out this summer. It is a decadent, fruity-floral fragrance with black currant, pear and lemon on the first, followed by peach blossom and jasmine at the heart, and woody base notes like cedarwood, patchouli and vanilla. I think it is sensual and sophisticated, and the bottle is just as gorgeous.
8. Neutrogena Hydro Boost
(Water Gel Cleanser, Micellar Water and Facial Wipes R99,95 each; Water Gel and Gel Cream R139,95 each)
The new skincare range from Neutrogena is built around Hyaluronic Acid, which works to deliver consistent moisture to the skin throughout the day, without feeling heavy or sticky. This is combined with Glycerin to replenish the skin barrier, and nourishing olive extracts. I enjoyed both the Gel-Cream and Water Gel moisturisers, which both gave consistent hydration all day but still felt super light and comfortable. I would probably use the Gel-Cream simply because it is fragrance-free, though the soft floral fragrance of the Water-Gel is quite lovely.
