Nude lippies that won't wash you out | 9Lives
Reading Time: 2 min

I love a nude lippie but I often struggle to find shades that work with my olive complexion. Most nude lip colours are better suited to fair skins and when I apply it, I look completely washed out.

The trouble comes when a nude shade has a very cool undertone, giving you that “corpse-bride” look. I always look for shades with warmer peach and pink tones.

I recently found a couple of newbies that I’m particularly fond of. Take a look.

Clinique Chubby Plump & Shine in ‘Normous Nude

I am loving the new Clinique Chubby Plump & Shine collection. I love the fact that they are ultra glossy without that overly sticky feel. This shade is particularly pretty for everyday wear when you want a subtle hint of colour, or you can pair it with a dramatic eye for an evening out.

L’Oréal Infallible Lip Paint Matte in Hollywood Beige

R179,95, leading retailers from July

L’Oréal has just dropped their new Lip Paint Matte range on my desk and I’m obsessed. These lippies last long, with minimal transfer and bleeding, and they feel really comfortable. The range has 6 laquer and 6 matte shades, with high pigment quality and a nice pointed applicator for precision painting. I think this nude shade is just gorgeous, with a peachy undertone that adds warmth to the look.

Urban Decay Naked Lipgloss in Beso

R295, Urban Decay Boutiques and

I have been carrying this one in my handbag since I got it, which says a lot. It is a semi-translucent nude shade that is perfect if you just want a touch of colour. It is a gloss but it’s not super sticky. I also find my lips feel moisturized and comfortable when I wear it.

GOSH Velvet Touch Lipstick in 162 Nude

R140, Edgars

I love the creamy consistency of this lipstick, and the soft pink tint. I think it’s a universally flattering shade that would look good on most skin tones. It’s also very nicely priced!

Bodyography Lip Lava Liquid Lipstick in Basic

If you are looking for a solid nude, this new lipstick from Bodyography is a good choice. It dries down to a matte finish and lasts really well. It has slightly cool undertone but I still found it flattering against my olive skin.

I am a lifestyle blogger from Cape Town trying to find the best ways to spend my time, take care of my body and express myself. I am slightly obsessed with fragrances, sneakers, Jamie Oliver and Masterchef Australia. Oh, and I probably drink way too much wine.
