This month I’ve found some brilliant beauty newbies that are all worth a try, from skin and haircare, makeup and manicures. Take a look:

L’Oreal Elvive Keratin Straight 72H

Shampoo and conditioner R69,95 each for 400ml, Oil Replacement R84,85 for 300ml

I have been using this range for a few weeks now and I am loving the results. The name is a bit misleading – I wouldn’t say the product makes your hair pin straight, but it does give a smoother look and feel. It contains liquid keratin that helps to fill each strand, counteracting damage caused by styling and daily wear and tear. It has also been formulated with black cumin oil to nourish.

My hair definitely feels smoother after I’ve washed and conditioned with this range, and it has a soft, shiny quality to it.

Dove Purely Pampering Coconut Milk Body Wash

R 37,99 for 250ml, mass retailers

This is the latest addition to the Purely Pampering range and I think it is so pretty. It has a creamy consistency with good foam, and a decadently sweet scent that makes me think of icing and coconut cake. It contains Lauric Acid, a good cleansing agent derived from coconut oil, as well as coconut extract, and then soybean and sunflower seed oil. I thought it cleansed effectively without making my skin feel tight or dry afterwards.

DKNY Be Tempted Eau Blush

R995 for 50ml, select department stores

This is the lighter, brighter follow-up to the original Be Tempted scent that launched a little while ago. I think it is beautiful for the spring / summer season. You’ll get bright pink grapefruit mixed with juicy blood orange and red currant on the first whiff, followed by soft jasmine and warm cedar wood at the heart, which then settles to warm woods and a hit of apricot.

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant Limited Edition

R265, elizabetharden.co.za

This is a cult product for a reason and worth keeping in your handbag to treat dry lips, cuticles, elbows and heels. You can also use it to tame eyebrows or dab it on your cheekbones for a glossy highlight. I love the new Limited Edition packaging. Grab one before they run out.

Eucerin Elasticity + Filler

Day Care with SPF 15 and Night Care R349,99 each for 50ml, Facial Oil R399,99 for 30ml. Available at Clicks, Dis-Chem and Select pharmacies

This is the latest skincare line from Eucerin. The night and day creams contain a nice mix of active ingredients, including Arctiin, which works to speed up collagen renewal, Silymarin, an antioxidant derived from Lady’s Thistle that protects collagen and elastin, and Hyaluronic Acid to plump up the skin.

The night cream also contains Argan oil, a rich source of Omega 6 and 9 essential fatty acids, as well as Panthenol for added hydration.

They’ve also launched a facial oil to accompany the day and night cream. This contains a blend of Argan oil, Vitamin E and Lady’s Thistle oil, all working to nourish your skin. Personally I love smoothing it over my skin before bed time for that extra touch of moisture.

I have been using it for a couple of weeks now and would say it’s a goodie if you have normal to dry skin.

Givenchy Prisme Visage in Popeline Rose

Price: R810, Givenchy Counters

These face powders have been relaunched with a new formulation that promises to make your skin look smoother and more even. It contains silk protein to smooth the skin, mica to add luminosity, and blurring agents to give your skin a soft, even look.

I find it gives my skin a soft, velvety matt finish without looking powdery at all. They have a variety of shades to compliment different skin tones.

ORLY nail polish collection

Color Care Polish Bond Base Coat (R210 for 11ml), Color Blast in Teal Creme (R176 for 11ml) and Color Care Snap Dry topcoat (R210 for 11ml). Available at indiglow.co.za

This is the my first time using the ORLY nail polish range and I am loving it. The bonder base coat has a rubberised formula that grips the lacquer to the nail, and promises to last over a week.

One of my favourite shades in the range is Teal Creme. I found the polish had a good consistency – not too gloopy or too thin, so you get a good, even colour on the first coat without streaks. I got solid colour with two coats.

I am particularly excited about the Snap Dry top coat. I started application on my left hand and by the time I was finished with on the right, the polish was dry, with a high gloss, glassy finish. This is highly convenient if, like me, you tend to paint your nails before bed or just before rushing out of the house.
