The first Plus 1 Festival will take place from 17 – 19 February at the recently refurbished La Paris Estate in Franschhoek, with a fantasy themed Happily Ever After Party.  The theme was inspired by the idea of marriage as the ultimate fairytale, with the promise of loving another forever after.

This “festival of love” can be attended for the entire weekend or for one of the three days. You can look forward to  live performances from top local acts like GoodLuck, Euphonik, Mi Casa and The Kiffness, and DJ Lovebirds from Berlin will perform for the first time in South Africa.

The festival will also celebrate art, with twenty of South African original artworks displayed in the winery for the weekend. Furthermore, five talented artists have created five large art installations that will be placed across the picturesque estate as a symbol of love. Look for the “Steam Punk Bride” installation at the dam, and the nearly 6 meter tall Eiffel Tower.

The “wedding reception” will be celebrated with a craft and gourmet food market, and DJs playing reinvented classics on their “Something Old” dance floor next to the dam. You can also bring your constume to dip into the water, and remember your lilo. The best lilo wins a bottle of your choice.

You are also encouraged to dress according to the theme, with prizes for the Best Dressed awarded out throughout the weekend. The festival kicks off with “Fantasy Friday” where you can dress up for their Stag and Hen parties, Saturday will see the big Celebration and Sunday is simply Funday where you can have a picnic and relax.

Costumes for Fantasy Friday should be a sexy expression of self, while outfits for the marriage on Saturday can be inspired by a variety of cultures and how they celebrate weddings. For Funday (on Sunday), the more outrageous, louder, artistic and original, the better.

“This is going to be the ultimate happily ever after event ever,” says Festival Director Greg Lipton. “Picture a mixture of romance and spectacle to the max; a Disney film directed by Quentin Tarantino. That is only a hint of what to expect.”
