This year’s Shiraz & Charcuterie Festival will once again take place at the picturesque Anthonij Rupert Wyne in Franschhoek, on 26 May 2018.
This is personally one of my favourite wine festivals and a highlight in the Franschhoek Wine Valley, combining South Africa’s finest Shiraz wines, platters of delicious charcuterie and artisanal foods, and crisp winter weather.
TheShiraz & Charcuterie Festival tends to be less crowded than others, so you actually have a chance to properly taste the wines and engage with the winemakers – many of whom actually man their own stands. At previous festivals the farms would also bring their very best wines, which means you get a chance to sip high class vintages that might be out of your price range – or that you normally buy to keep.
Anthonij Rupert themselves will be offering tastings of the limited release Anthonij Rupert Syrah and the site-specific Cape of Good Hope Riebeeksrivier Shiraz. They will be joined by 18 other top estates including Thelema Mountain Vineyards, Mullineux Wines, Rickety Bridge Winery, Stark-Condé Wines and Hartenberg Wine Estate (who are famous for their Shiraz).
You can pair the wines with an array of local and international charcuterie on offer – featuring everything from salamis and cured hams to flavoured chorizos. Nibble on the samples, choose your favourites and purchase them to enjoy at the festival or to take home.
Anthonij Rupert Wyne will also be putting together a harvest table packed with fresh seasonal salads, homemade exotic mushroom and fontina arancini and olives, pickles and chillies. And to round it off, visit The Macaroon Bar for decadent flavours like Salted Caramel, Chocolate Cherry and Milk Tart.
