When it comes to my skin care routine, I’m quite a Plain Jane. Everything I know of skincare, or my skin for that matter, I learned from my dear old mom. She’s a Plain Jane, too, and I grew up seeing her applying only the necessary skincare products. With the picture of only a night cream and a toner standing on her bedside table, I followed her lead in the Plain Jane compartment.
But I’m only Plain Jane in skincare, and not in the rest of my lifestyle. With a floral-patterned blazer and plans for after work, I set off starting my day. My alarm goes off at 6am, but I only get up at 6:30 (snoozing an alarm is one of my biggest talents). With eyes still shut, I get up, press play on some new album I discovered the day before and only when my home is filled with the smell of coffee I open my eyes. And from there it is chaos. The chaos starts with my Nina-die-boskind- hair, Googling if the weather in Stellenbosch will allow me to wear a blazer and trying to get my flatmate out of bed. After I’ve ticked those three boxes, off to work it is!
While we are on the topic of work, after work drinks is a big tradition in my life and Akker in Stellenbosch forms part of my day-to-day activities. When my last whiskey in Akker comes to an end, I jump in my car on my way to the next big gig.

As a young professional building my career during the day and exploring the local music scene at night I know that a good skincare routine is just as important to my skin as the next Albert Frost show is for my muso heart. As I prepare for my next music adventure, the Optiphi team introduces the Optiphi Classic Range. A simplified range that strives for healthy and balanced skin. The Classic range includes products to maintain skin vitality and support the prevention of premature aging.
I have a combination skin, with some parts of my face dry and other parts of my face oily. Worst of both worlds, right? With an oily forehead, nose and chin and dull and rough cheeks. If this sounds familiar, you need to read on.
My routine starts with the Optiphi Classic Pure Cleansing Wash to wash away the previous night’s drum kicks. The Optiphi Classic Pure wash is a milky cleanser that gently purifies, with soothing properties of Allantoin and Salicylic Acid that deep-cleanse without leaving sensitivity. In my teen years puberty hit me hard. I was the Roaccutane girl for years and because of that, my skin is very sensitive to strong, intense products. The Optiphi Classic Pure wash is a mild soap with no fragrances, and it I’m relieved that it does not feel as though I’m pounding my face with excessive stuff that is harsh on my skin.
We all know the dreaded coming back from a night out, having mascara under your eyes and McDonalds all over your face. As important water is for your wellbeing after a night out on the town, so is hydration for your skin. After I have washed away all the drum kicks, my face needs that extra guitar riff which comes in the form of the Optiphi Classic Hydra-Derm HA Maque. A creamy leave-on masque that soothes dehydration, fights the signs of fatigue and delivers a long lasting moisturization. I’m moving into my mid twenties and I understand that I need to start thinking about anti-aging, because you can’t be 21 forever. The Hydra-Derm HA Masque reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improves my skin’s firmness, and protects the collagen and elastin to support my skin’s structure so that I can go back for an encore.
After that I apply the Restore Therapy. This promotes a complete dermal restoration with a multi-targeted anti-aging approach (another tick on the not-21-forever list) and the Retinol rejuvenates the skin and targets uneven skin tone and pigmentation.
The Plain Jane in me how the Optiphi Classic range makes looking after my skin simple and easy, without bringing back the Roaccutane girl.
As I prepare for a Dan Patlansky show at the moment, I take the time to inspect my skin a little more. I can put the foundation back in my makeup bag, because my skin looks hydrated, balanced and ready for a bass player out there.
