The days are getting a little longer, trees have started pushing out new, bright green leaves and everywhere around us the flowers and starting to bud and bloom. Spring has finally arrived and while there is still a chill in the air I can feel that the worst of winter has passed.

As I shrug off the heavy layers, scarves and coats, I also pack away my spicier winter perfumes and switch to something light, airy and floral.

To celebrate the new season I have put together ten of my favourite spring-friendly fragrances. I hope you find something you adore!

1. The Body Shop Polynesian Island Tiara

R285 for 50ml EDT,

The Body Shop launched this fragrance line a few months ago and this little jewel landed on my desk just in time for the sunny seasons. I adore the warm, soft, floral scent, dominated by the smell of frangipani and ylang ylang, with hints of coconut, vanilla and bright citrus.

For me this one brings up warm afternoons strolling through the streets of a coastal town, with the scent of flowers releasing into the warm air and the cool ocean waves crashing in the distance.

 2. Zadig & Voltaire This is Her!

R1 100 for 50ml EDT,

This fragrance is quite different from ones I have experienced lately, so it took a while for it to grow on me. Now, however, it is one of my absolutely favourites. It is feminine but also pretty rock n roll, with spicy pink pepper and luxurious jasmine, alongside chestnut, vanilla and sandalwood. I think people with either love or hate it. By the way, the men’s fragrance is equally delicious and I would easily wear that one as well.

I see a rock festival, a loose tank top and frayed jeans, Chucks muddy from dancing in front of the stage and loose, wavy hair glistening in the sunlight.

3. Mont Blanc Lady Emblem

R743 for 30ml EDP, select department stores

I was instantly charmed by this bottle, made to resemble the Montblanc diamond, which has a heavy, luxurious feel to it, with the sparkling star on top.

I think the fragrance is just as beautiful, with bright pink pepper and grapefruit on the first, followed by seductive rose, jasmine and pomegranate at the heart, and sandalwood, amber and musk on the dry -down.

Like the bottle, the fragrance is fresh and dazzling, reminding me of diamonds, light linen dresses and a tall glass filled with sparkling bubbly. Lovely.

4. Giorgio Armani Si Le Parfum

R1 095 for 40ml, select department stores from mid-October

Le Parfum is the latest in the Giorgio Armani Si family of fragrances and I’m tempted to say that it’s my favourite so far. Where the previous scents all resembled each other in a way, this one is much warmer and velvety, with notes of blackcurrant and bergamot on the first, soft jasmine at the heart and then you’re left with warm amber, vanilla and patchouli.

This is an ideal fragrance for this inbetweener month – softly floral but still warm and comforting. It reminds me of a decadent dessert and a Chai Latte, enjoyed in a spot of sunlight outside your favourite café.

5. Bulgari Rose Goldea

R1 660 for 50ml EDP, select department stores

This fragrance pays homage to Cleopatra, the powerful Egyptian ruler who could seduce emperors and who has inspired literature, ballets, theater pieces and operas through the centuries. It is said that the night she seduced Marc Anthony she surrounded her bedside knee-deep in rose-pink petals.

Rose Goldea is seductive, enchanting and utterly romantic. At the same time the fragrance hints at Cleopatra’s dangerous seductive charms with the symbol of a snake – the golden scales of it’s skin wrapped around the neck of the bottle.

The Eau du Parfum is dominated by the scent of rose blended with soft musk that gives it a creamy quality. At the heart you’ll get sparkling pomegranate, which lifts the scent, giving it a fresh fruitiness that balances against the white floral charms of jasmine. Then finally you are left with the warm sweetness of sandalwood and white incense on the dry-down.

I am absolutely enchanted by this perfume. The blend of notes gives me the sense of rose petals dipped in honey; deliciously luxurious.

6. Jimmy Choo Illicit Flower

R1 095 for 100ml EDT, Clicks, Dis-Chem and select department stores from mid-September

This fragrance is the flirtatious sister of the Illicit Eau de Parfum that launched earlier this year. Where the original made me think of white roses and soft caramel, this one is fresh and fruity with top notes of apricot, mandarin and freesia followed by rose and jasmine at the heart. And finally you’re left with the warmth of musk, sandalwood and cashmere on the linger.

It makes me think of warm afternoons, cocktails by the pool and white summer dresses. Very pretty indeed.

7. Lavin Eclat de Fleur

R1 295 for 100ml EDP, select department stores

Eclat de Fleur is a deliciously bright, juicy scent that really captures the essence of this season. The bottle has been shaped to resemble a daisy, an iconic flower in the house of Lanvin, with a soft, pink liquid to fill its petals.

The juice reminds me of soft fruits, with pear on the top notes followed by freesia, rose and jasmine at the heart of the fragrance, and woody musk on the dry down. The result is light-hearted and free.

When I smell this I see a friends having a picnic on a clear Spring afternoon, sandals kicked off.

8. Repetto Eau Florale

R1 095 for 80ml EDT, Stuttafords & Dis-Chem

The latest addition to the Repetto fragrance still embraces the grace and femininity of the prima ballerina, but with more vibrance and energy. You’ll catch pink grapefruit and cherry blossom on the top, a blend of violet and rose in the middle notes, and cedar wood on the finish.

This scent reminds me of a garden party, floral bouquets decorating the table and glasses filled with petal-pink Rosé.

9. Hollister Wave for Her

R795 for 100m EDP, Clicks and select department stores

This is a young, fruity floral scent that makes me think of milkshakes on a warm afternoon. The top notes are juicy, with star fruit, blackberry sorbet and quince. These are supported by orchid, hibiscus and poppy at the heart, and then creamy sandalwood and amber at the base.

It makes me think of a theme park, riding rollercoasters, eating burgers and soft serve ice cream, and ending the day on a beach with a blue eyed boy.

10. Elizabeth Arden Green Tea Nectarine Blossom

R425 for 100ml EDT,

This is the latest Limited Edition Green Tea variant, bringing a warm, fruity flavour to the classic summer scent. You get a strong hit of peach and nectarine, brightened by the fresh green tea notes. This is followed by soft blossom, bergamot and exotic fruits, and musk on the finish.

It’s a delicious everyday scent for the spring and summer months, and makes me think of sipping cocktails and enjoying platters of fresh fruit next to the pool, feet dipping in and out of the cool water.
