VIDEO: How to create my easy summer hairstyle + GIVEAWAY

TRESemmé is giving away a hamper valued at R250 AND a Superbalist voucher worth R250! Whoop! Scroll down for details.

This look was inspired by one that the TRESemmé team created for Charles Youssef at the recent New York Fashion Week show. I have adapted it to make it simpler and easier to do each day.

If you have long hair you can bring the twists together to create a larger twisted bun and secure that with pins. Since I have short hair I simply overlapped the two pieces and secured them with three bobby pins to create a triangle detail.

This has become my go-t0 look for summer. I hope you like it!

Step by Step

  1. For this look I started by washing my hair with the new TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume reverse wash system (R96,99 each)
  2. Next I applied the Beauty-Full Volume Hair Maximiser (R85,99) to damp hair, which helps to create texture and body.
  3. I also worked through some of the Beauty-Full Volume Mousse (R79,99) for added volume.
  4. Finally I prepped my hair with the TRESemmé Heat Defence Styling Spray (R85,99) to prevent damage from my styling tools.
  5. Next, roughly blow dry your hair to enhance the texture.
  6. Part your hair down the middle.
  7. Section off the top half and clip it out of the way.
  8. Curl the bottom layers of hair using a curling tong (or straightener if you prefer)
  9. Unclip the top layers and continue to curl.
  10. Twist a section from your ear backwards, adding little bits of hair as your work your way back – kind of like a French-braid. Don’t make the twist too thick or you’ll struggle to pin them at the end.
  11. Repeat on the other side of your head.
  12. Cross the two twists at the back of your head and secure with three bobby pins to create a triangle shape.
  13. Add more curls to the loose hair if you prefer.
  14. Fix the twist with TRESemmé Salon Finish Extra Hold hairspray (R85,99 for 500ml)

My hair = mess. I’m currently growing out what used to be a very short Chinese bob. I’m at the point where the ends are just starting to touch my shoulders with a longer strand on one side. Easiest way to hide all of this is one of two go-to’s for me. 1. Messy AF top knot, or 2. Very whimsical looking braid on the longer side with the rest either tied up or just the braid pinned. Whatever I choose depends on how big the party was the night before ;))

These all sound lovely! Braids are a brilliant way to hide those odd hairs – I use it to deal with my grown-out fringe. Thanks so much for entering, good luck!

I actually like a full curly head, my curly ness comes out particularly great when my hair is about 3 days dirty then all I do it wet it and add conditioner, sometimes I used my diffuser to heat it up and curl it then add a little hair spray. This is my go-to for 3 months of summer days and Tresemme would really help me if I won this hamper 🙂

Such a pretty look!! I find beach waves work best for my hair which is getting too long. Beach waves mean I don’t have to have it sleek and perfect and if it’s loose and a bit messy, it still looks good! Thanks for all the tips!!

I totally agree Janet! I think beach waves are gorgeous and feminine, and they actually look better if they’re a bit “lived-in” 🙂 Thanks so much for entering!

Beach waves for sure! I’m dying to create some beach waves and do something else with my hair other than my signature straight, flat mane ?. Would be a perfect look to sport this summer! Would be an absolute blessing to try this range and see if I can pull it off (you make it look so easy though)! But none the less, extra hair volume is much needed for my poor thinning hair and beach waves seem like a walk in the park with this range ?

I think you should definitely try beach waves Nicole! They really are easy to create, you just need to get use to a curling iron (it took me few burn wounds before I got the hang of it). These products are lovely for bounce and volume! Good luck!

I recently cut my hair. I was so use to styling my long hair and being able to manage it, I didn’t realize what a transition it would be styling shoulder length hair.
At the moment my favourite go to hair style is making big natural voluminous curls with my Tresemme hairdryer with the diffuser attachment. The hairdyer is so strong and gives me perfect volumized natural curls everytime, I always finish off my look with my Tresemme hold spray so I don’t need to worry about any frizz or unruly hair during the day. #TresemmeStaysWinning

My favourite and easiest go-to summer hairstyle would have to be the old classic beach wave. Such a suitable style for those lazy beach days. But sometimes the waves (and the koekerasies) just gets a bit out of control. That is why i need a hamper like this to give my hair a bit of style and moisture to add to the natural beach waves. Thanks for the great style tips! I think it compliments the natural wavy look perfectly. Fingers crossed for that hamper 🙂

Long, beachy waves are my favourite! But I’m going to cut my hair to about your length soon, so I can try out this look. I find my long hair weighs any curls I make down too much. Love the look!

Honestly my favourite summer hairstyle has to be the ponytail. It’s classic, and about an hour after creating it, it becomes a messy ponytail. Voila, sorted. Hahaha! When I’m brave enough to let my hair down and free flowing, it does beachy waves by default. Since I live by the coast, beachy waves turns into a frizzy mess very fast, unfortunately. So that’s pretty much why I ponytail it up most of the time.

Tresseme hair products would undoubtedly go a long way in improving my hair situation, especially the hair spray I see there. Would be a wonderful hamper to receive. I’ll be keenly holding thumbs for this one.

Also, thanks for the lovely tutorial. I absolutely love your fresh ideas, giving me a new perspective for the summer holidays. Will definitely try the new look described above. Keep up the great work. You continue to inspire!

And to anyone and everyone who reads this, have a blessed last bit of the year!

    Love x

I feel you, my hair needs constant taming to keep frizz at bay. I think you would like the TRESemmé products, particularly the mousse, which I find helps to keep the hair together for longer. Thanks so much for entering!

I love a half up down easy going hairstyle in summer(something like you did but without the curls cause I such at it) or opt for a sleek pony tail

I am definitely rocking my shaved undercut and side-shave this summer. When you have your hair up in a bun, you still have that interesting look with an edge. If you make a few loose curls with your hair down and the wind takes it up in the air (Cape Town summer!) you have something to show.
