How about a beach mission and a copious amount of fresh and fun cocktails? Sounds about right to me! Luckily, there are many cool beach bars gracing the coast of Cape Town, where we can sink our feet in the sand with a piña colada in hand of course! Not to mention beautiful views and vibey company. Now that the summer holidays have officially hit, I’ve compiled a list of the best beach bars in and around Cape Town where you can laze away the days.

A go-to spot for the social butterflies, Shimmy Beach Club is all about curating an ocean-front dining experience. From lounging in their spacious restaurant while biting into wood-fired pizza, to perching at their sushi bar, or sipping on a punchy cocktail by the pool, this is a place to indulge in the finer things in life.

Keep an ear out for their ‘summer calling’ celebrations this summer, where you can expect sizzling music icons (how does DJ Black Coffee and Goldfish sound?) to take centre stage at Shimmy’s. Their New Years Eve event will be hosted by none other than Blue Marlin Ibiza. So let’s just say it’ll be a whopping party of wild glamour.

A summer romance where le grande-chic is kissed with a touch of the retro, this Cape town classic is a fave amongst the local hip and tourists alike. With eye-candy views over the tempestuous Atlantic, the Grand is perched on a private beach just a stone’s throw from the V&A Waterfront. Rocking an ultra cool beach cafe culture, you can expect either a night of wild beachy rendezvous or low-key sundowners. You will have to see where the night takes you!

Calling the sunkissed from the Clifton shores for a splash of naughtiness, this baroque style beach bar is a place to let loose and get in the ‘Bugalicious’ vibe. Their selection of flirty cocktails will certainly get you buzzed! From the likes of sushi, seafood and fresh line fish, to beef Carpaccio, their food offering doesn’t just paint a pretty picture, but will also leave you sensationally satisfied, especially after a day of sea and sun!

Where sea air sweeps into a chandelier adorned beach/Cuban salon extravaganza (think Panama hats, cigars and Catholic iconography), Cape to Cuba Hemingway Beach Bar is a must-visit! Offering cocktail galore, along with a selection of wine and beer, you can enjoy the long summer evenings at their beach-themed outdoor bar overlooking the harbour — think mounds of sand and tropical lapas. Their regular live music (often some sort of Latino-fusion sound) will certainly get you feeling feisty. With platters for the peckish, along with good old pizzas, burgers and nachos, their restaurant has all you need to line your stomach for a night of good vibes and carefree fun.

Situated right on Hout Bay beach, Dunes is the perfect pet-friendly and child-friendly spot for a lazy summer weekend. Work up on appetite on the beach (along with your furry friends of course) and reward yourself to decent grub — think pizza, burgers, fresh seafood and sushi) Here you can also simply take in the fresh air and spectacular views, while you and wile away the evening sipping on sundowners.
