From cooking up a feast to hunting down the perfect gift for someone who “claims” they are happy with socks and jocks, Christmas can be a stressful time! It’s actually surprising that people look forward to it every year. But after the year we just had, it truly is the season to be jolly!
I don’t think I’ve ever spent as much time confined by four walls as this year. But when I look back now, I’ve also never been so content doing just that. This made me realise just how important it is to make every corner in your home your own little happy space. I know I’m definitely not the only person who started redecorating during 2020, so to help you get through the stress of Christmas shopping, I compiled a gift guide for the ultimate homebody.
Check out these 6 affordable gifts to keep everyone in your life jolly this season:
Large Black oil burner from Rain
Many people still work from home, whether it’s the corner of your bedroom or the kitchen table, or if you’re lucky, a dedicated office space. But regardless, you are spending most of your time here, and it’s important to make it a space that you don’t dread returning to each morning. An oil burner is the perfect way to do this.
This pitch black burner from Rain Africa is incredibly aesthetically pleasing, and paired with the right burner oil it can turn your boring office space into the perfect little fragrant corner.
I paired my burner with the Wild Cotton fragrant burner oil below.
Wild Cotton fragrant burner oil from Rain
R269.00 for 125ml, shop.rainafrica.com
If you are planning a staycation this holiday season, there’s no reason to be blue about it if you have this Wild Cotton burner oil from Rain Africa. The fragrance of this oil reminds me of the memories made on a summer holiday, or quite literally a stroll through a cotton field on a hot summer day. The oil has woodsy notes with hints of fern, patchouli and basil.
A4 print of their favourite fashion icon from Tilonè
R200.00, email email@example.com to order
Tilonè is a t-shirt line inspired by some of the greatest fashion icons of all time. Think Chanel, Lagerfeld, Carrie Bradshaw, Wintour, Freddie Mercury and of course the Olsen twins, to name only a few. Not only am I completely obsessed with these, but I am thrilled to now bring her designs into my home as well.
I got my A4 Chanel print a few months ago, and the worst part of this decision is to not being able to decide whether it looks best in my bedroom, study or living room. The designs of the prints are timeless, and who wouldn’t feel inspired waking up to their favourite fashion icons?
“CHANEL was an explorer in the world of business men. She understood that women would play a large role in the future and dressed them according. It was a classic case of never underestimating what a good outfit can do.” – Tilonè
The A4 prints are not up on the website yet, but you can view her range of designs and email firstname.lastname@example.org to order.
I paired my print with a classic black and natural box frame from Woolworths – details below.
Mason frame in Black from Woolies
R140.00 for A4, woolworths.co.za
If you already have a cool piece of art, it doesn’t need a flashy frame as well. These Mason frames from Woolies are available in both A4 and 10x15cm sizes, and comes in black or white options. The frames are sleek and a classic design that you won’t get tired of anytime soon.
Tea Tree Terrazzo Loaf from A Cake of Soap
R299.00 for 500g, acakeofsoap.co.za
Nothing can transform your bathroom like the right accessories.
A Cake of Soap is an old favourite for some 9Lives team members, and I recently got introduced to their products myself. My Tea Tree Terrazzo Loaf is quite literally one of the coolest creations I’ve seen in a long time. I just love the abstract look of the little activated charcoal bits sticking out of the otherwise pure-white loaf. Their soaps are made only with natural, high quality ingredients, and something that made me very happy – it’s also chemical free! A Cake of Soap has made it their personal mission to switch from liquid to bar (goodbye plastic), so this really is a gift that keeps on giving.
I chose the black and white bar to go with the rest of my bathroom, but you should definitely head over to the website for some really cool colours and fragrances. And if you really can’t choose your favourite (it’s hard, I know), they also sell gift cards. My favourite part? I got the satisfaction of slicing my loaf into 5 soap bars myself.
Eat a Peach: A Memoir by David Chang
Ever since the day that I got my own coffee table, all I wanted was to start collecting coffee table books. Art books, historical books, memoirs, you name it. Because even though I don’t spend a lot of time on the couch, I love the feeling of a cosy and inviting living room. This is also the perfect gift for someone who recently moved into their own place and wants to start decorating it the way they want to.
Eat a Peach: A Memoir, is the New York bestseller from the star of Netflix’s Ugly Delicious, David Chang. The book is an intimate account of Chang’s culinary coming of age. Not only is it an amazing story, but as a designer, the book’s cover immediately drew my attention.
“David puts words to so many of the things we all feel, sharing generously of his own journey so we can all benefit in the process.”—Chrissy Teigen
