Lovers of local designer fashion are probably already firm fans of The Space, a collaboration between a group of local creatives. For the last two decades they have been selling from their stores in malls like Cavendish Square, Canal Walk, Rosebank and Mall of Africa, to name a few, and now they have expanded their footprint with their first out-of-mall store, Now Showing, in De Waterkant.

Now Showing promises to be a regularly transforming shopping space at 109 Waterkant Street. According to the team, the store will be reinvented every six to eight weeks around a fresh new concept, offering shopping, after-hours events, and takeovers by leading design names. The after-hours events will allow guests an in-depth insight into some of the products that have been carefully selected for the store’s current concept.

The minimalist ground floor provides a blank canvas of mirrors, concrete, and whitewashed walls to allow premier collections of garments and accessories by esteemed local design icons Colleen Eitzen, Amanda Laird-Cherry, Leigh Schubert and ALC to pop, while linen curtains conceal well-appointed dressing rooms.

Upstairs will tempt shoppers to The Dark Side, the curated collaborative concept occupying the space from 31 August to 28 October.  Here all things bold, eerie, and enigmatic have been assembled in an atmospheric space where you can take every element home from charcoal water, inky black pasta, and decadent dark chocolate, to luxurious lotions and beauty potions displayed on a washbasin. A glass cabinet, home to a taxidermy owl, also houses opulent jewellery pieces and seductive adult items.

“Even the moon has a dark side,” explains Neil Roake, whose discerning eye is behind the curation of Now Showing’s product offering. “We have explored the concept of darkness and mystery and put together items that will surprise and delight shoppers. Although deliciously dark with hints of the forbidden, a sense of humour runs throughout,” he says.

As a further treat to the senses, Schalk Opperman, general manager and winemaker from Lammershoek will be facilitating weekly private wine tastings (Only 20 spaces available per night).

I am a lifestyle blogger from Cape Town trying to find the best ways to spend my time, take care of my body and express myself. I am slightly obsessed with fragrances, sneakers, Jamie Oliver and Masterchef Australia. Oh, and I probably drink way too much wine.
