Summertime calls for light moisturizers, cooling sprays and soothing face masks. I have put together a selection of my favourite beauty buys for the sunny season, from a super refreshing body sorbet to my go-to hair remedy and more. Take a look:

Clinique Happy Eau de Parfum

R1100 for 100ml,

I love going for something fresh over the summer seasons and this one always hits the spot with notes of grapefruit, bergamot, and bright florals. Clinique Happy always makes me think of my high school years, spending the holidays in Hermanus swimming at the reservoir or lounging on Voëlklip beach. This year they will donate R20 for every Happy fragrance sold to the SMILE Foundation SA, so you’re treating yourself and someone else!

Mandy’s Original Wax Strips for Bikini and Underarm

R69,50 for 20 wax strips, Clicks & Dis-Chem

A quick strip is still the quickest way to get fuzz free for the bikini season. I mean, you can shave it all, but then you have to deal with the very itchy consequences when it all starts to grow back. No thanks! I’ve always been a fan of the Mandy’s hair removal products. These strips will sort you out one shot and they have also been formulated with Sunflower and Geranium Oils as well as Vitamin E to soothe your skin. As a bonus the hair stays away for up to four weeks so you can feel confident that no creepy crawlies will poke out from your swimsuit. Phew!

Sh’Zen PhytoExquisites Floral Hydrating Mist

R209 for 125ml,

Face and body mists are one of my summer obsessions! This one from Sh’Zen is particularly lovely when you’ve just returned from a day at the beach or by the pool and you want to freshen up. It smells incredible, with rose, neroli, jasmine and rosehip oil that help to feed the skin. It also acts as a toner so spray it all over your face as soon as you step out of the shower to help re-balance your skin.

Dermaceutic C25 Cream

This day cream contains a high concentration of antioxidants that help to prevent damage caused by free radicals. The formulation contains a 25% Vitamin C complex as well as Vitamins A, B5 and E.

Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant and a crucial role-player in the production of collagen. Vitamin A is basically the diva of anti-aging, helping to combat wrinkles, fine lines, uneven skin texture and hyperpigmentation. Vitamin B5 and E both nourish the skin, and polyphenals work to fight free radical damage.

I loved using this product. My skin developed a healthy glow and I saw a definite difference in my pigmentation. I can definitely recommend it.

The Body Shop Piñita Colada Fresh Body Sorbet

LIMITED EDITION. R125 for 200ml, The Body Shop

This has the texture of a sorbet and smells like a delicious summer cocktail. I was a little skeptical when I saw the words Piñita Colada, a fragrance that tends to be very sickly sweet and overly coconut driven. This product got it right, though. The scent is much lighter, fresher and really appealing in my opinion, and the texture is super soft and light on your skin. Go try it out!

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel-Cream

R139,95 for 50ml,

This moisturiser provides intense hydration but has a beautifully light texture and feel on your skin. It is built around Hyaluronic Acid which basically works like a sponge, attracting water towards it and then slowly releasing moisture to consistently nourish your skin through the day. The Gel-Cream is also fragrance free and oil free. I think this is a brilliant buy for summer.

Kiehl’s Turmeric & Cranberry Seed Energizing Radiance Mask

The formula works to energize dull and fatigued skin and restore a healthy appearance. The base of the mask is kaolin, a clay that helps to pull out impurities. It also contains turmeric extract, said to soothe the skin, and act as an antioxidant and anti-septic. Cranberry is another rich source of antioxidants, and they’ve added crushed cranberry seeds that gently exfoliate your skin.  I love using it as a mask and then working it off in a circular motion to gently exfoliate my skin. I am obsessed with the fresh citrus scent and the cool feeling it creates.

Lulu & Marula Energising Body Balm

R270 for 100ml,

I struggle with dry heels, knees, elbows and cuticles during the summer months. This body balm is lovely, with a warm citrus scent and soft balm texture that melts into your skin. It is also locally made and packed with all-natural skincare ingredients like Shea butter, beeswax and grape seed, marula, coconut, baobab and jojoba oils, as well as a range of essential oils. Apart from moisturising, it also boosts circulation and in that way it can potentially help with cellulite, varicose veins and muscle pain.

I think it is gorgeous.

Kérastase Soin Premiere Therapiste and Bain Therapiste

Shampoo R300 and Conditioner R360,

Since I went blonde I really need to give my hair extra TLC, especially when I am out in the sun and sea all day. This is one of my rescue remedies when my hair is feeling particularly stressed out. You start with the conditioner and follow with the shampoo. After applying the conditioner I can instantly feel my hair become smoother and more manageable. It is brilliant! I also recommend you invest in the Therapiste serum, which you apply after washing. It’s a pricey range but it definitely makes a massive difference, and you can use it interchangeably with your normal hair care when necessary.

Moroccanoil Dry Texture Spray

R385 for 205ml

This is one of my favourite products for summer. It helps to give you those “I’ve-been-at-the-beach-all-day” mermaid waves. It adds texture like a sea-salt spray would, but it doesn’t dry your hair out. Spritz a little into your ends and scrunch them up to give texture and add body.

Caribbeantan Tinted Body Bronzer Cream

R59.95, Dis-Chem and Clicks

This is a lovely product if you want to boost your tan, or if you urgently need some colour before a big night out. It spreads easily and evenly, and gives your skin a natural bronze tint with a soft golden shimmer. Leave it on for about 10 minutes before getting dressed. And then simply shower to remove the product.

I am a lifestyle blogger from Cape Town trying to find the best ways to spend my time, take care of my body and express myself. I am slightly obsessed with fragrances, sneakers, Jamie Oliver and Masterchef Australia. Oh, and I probably drink way too much wine.
