I tried the new Mr D Food App and I’m super impressed

The husband knows not to mess with me once the hanger has set in. Aah hanger, when you go past the point of hunger and you get completely irrational and frustrated with every single thing in this life, including the fact that you are now so hungry that you can’t possibly decide what you feel like eating. You need to fuel up, and fast.

When the hanger has taken over the last thing I want to do is talk to a stranger over the phone, navigating South African language barriers as I try to spell out Italian pizza names. Eish.

So can we all give a huge round of applause for Mr Delivery, now re-branded as MR D Food, who have done away with their website and launched an app so simple I can navigate it even when I am in a post-work, famished stupor. And best of all? You don’t have to speak to any human beyond the one dropping the food at your door. Yes please!

The app is available to download for free, and registration is a quick and easy process. From here you are are given a list of restaurants in proximity to your address. Each restaurant also has an estimated delivery time, allowing you to see whether you’ll wait around 45 minutes or an hour and a half. This feature is genius if you’re starving.

If your location is turned on the phone will also automatically pick up a new address if, for instance, you are ordering food from the office and not at home. No need to edit your profile.

The app has a super simple and intuitive design. Scroll through the restaurant menu and tick the options you want. When you’re done, just select Add to Cart. Once you’ve added all the mains and sides and drinks and desserts you can think of (who else completely over-orders every time?) you proceed to Check Out. From here you have the option to pay with a credit card, or you can do cash on delivery.

Once you’ve placed your order the app tracks your food and keeps you updated as things go along. So you can see when the restaurant has received your order, when the Mr Delivery man has arrived to collect your food, when he is close to your home, and when everything has been dropped off. They also give you an estimated time of delivery once the order has been placed.

I tried the app last night and I was so impressed. Our food arrived about 15 minutes earlier than they said on the app (never a bad thing), hot and delicious. After your order is delivered the app asked me to rate my experience as well as my meal so I assume they’ll add user ratings to the various restaurants as time goes on. Yay!

Give it a go and let me know what you think. I was super impressed.

The app is already live in Cape Town and they are busy rolling out across the country.
