A Valentine’s movie for every mood

Love it or hate it; Valentine’s Day comes round once a year and it’s mostly an adapt-or-die situation. My love language is, without a doubt, quality time, so I’ll feel extremely spoilt if you arrange me a romantic movie night at home. Or maybe you would like to skip the crowds and rather just binge something at home. Whatever your reason is for taking it easy this Valentine’s Day – I’ve got a movie for you!

Clumsy in Love: Bridget Jones’ Diary

Now Streaming on Netflix
Favourite quote:
““It is a truth universally acknowledged that when one part of your life starts going okay, another falls spectacularly to pieces.”
———————————-
Everyone’s favourite hot mess, Bridget Jones, is still the perfect tonic to any Valentine’s blues. Maybe you’re creeping up on 30 and things have not been going as planned, romantically, well then, Bridget Jones is just the girl for you! Best part is that there are currently three Bridget Jones films, one as enjoyable as the next, so why not make a binge night out of it?

Married… with children: Bad Neighbours 1 & 2

Now streaming on Netflix

———————————-
So maybe this Valentine’s Day is just a chance for you and hubby to catch up and put the kids to be early. Nothing will have you squealing with mindless laughter like the Bad Neighbours series. Although the comedy is quite obvious, that is sometimes just what you need to unwind and laugh out loud. Plus, have you seen Zac Efron’s ridiculously toned body?!

Thank you, next: He’s just not that into you

Now streaming on Netflix
Favourite quote:
“So trust me when I say if a guy is treating you like he doesn’t give a shit, he genuinely doesn’t give a shit. No exceptions.”
———————————-
So first he avoided the topic of Valentine’s Day. Then he made up some lame excuse about being busy. Then, he didn’t even send flowers. And to top it off you spotted him having drinks with friends anyway. Let it go, Girl! Head home, pour yourself a massive glass of wine, delete his texts and settle in for some hard love with He’s just not that into you. You’ll laugh, you’ll probably cry, but it’ll be worth it!

Take things to the next level: Knocked Up

Now streaming on Showmax

————————————
So it might not be the best way to let hubby know that you are ready for diaper runs, but it is probably not the worst way either. Watch everyone’s favourite anti-hero, Seth Rogen, mess up spectacularly when his one night stand turns into a lifetime commitment. It is a quirky, offbeat comedy, perfect for a night on the couch.

Just friends: Shrek

Now streaming on Showmax
Favourite quote:
“Y’know, me too. That’s another thing we have in common. I hate it when you’ve got someone in your face, you try to give someone a hint and they won’t leave, and then there’s that big awkward silence… Can I stay with you?”
—————————–
You’ve tried your best, you put in the hours, but it’s just not going to work! On the other hand, it is still Valentine’s Day and the thought of being alone is just too depressing. So compromise; invite him over for Valentine’s movies and sneak Shrek in. Not too romantic, but still falls in the love story category – this movie is just the thing for keeping it casual.

The Galentine’s Choice: Dirty Dancing

Now streaming on Showmax

——————————————–
First of all, I’m referring to the OG Dirty Dancing. The one with Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. And what can possibly be better than joining Baby on her summer vacation for a coming-of-age adventure amid a whirlwind romance, set in a summer resort? Well, not a lot! Trust me, the girls will fall in love, dance and sing along with Johnny, Baby and the gang. All subsequent water lifts to be done at own risk.

Da bois: Not Another Teen Movie

Now streaming on Prime Video
Favourite quote:
“You put the “suck” in “liposuction” You put the “ooo” in “jiu-jitsu” You put the “ism” in “This is all just a defense mechanism”.
————————————
Beer, pizza, foosball and whiskey shots – must be boys night. Getting the boys together for Valentine’s Day is probably not the worst idea, and throwing a movie in the mix might just be the thing. It’s been years since I’ve watched this movie, but I clearly remember the iconic teenage angst and jocks versus losers dialogue. It’s easily digestible entertainment, just the thing!

Parent Trap: My Best Friend’s Wedding

Now streaming on Prime Video

————————————-
Overwhelmed by all these Valentine’s happenings, couples and tacky red hearts and cheap chocolate, you decide to skip it all and just head to your parents’ for the night. My Best Friend’s Wedding is a safe, family-friendly choice and will definitely have your mom reminiscing of the days we saw Julia Roberts in every single movie.

The One: The Great Gatsby

Now streaming on Netflix
Favourite quote:
“I wish I had done everything with you.”
————————————–
You love him. You feel like on some level you’ve always loved him and will always love him. Even if great tragedy strikes, you believe in the green light across the harbour. The Great Gatsby is still today one of the greatest love stories of all times, at least to me , and Baz Luhrman’s recreation is the stuff of flapper girls’ dreams!

Run like you mean it: The Ring

Now streaming on Netflix

————————————
Safe to say that Valentine’s Day can just kiss your ass. You don’t feel the love, you don’t feel like celebrating. You’ve been trying to avoid shops since Christmas and quite frankly, you’d just kill off the holiday if you could. It’s understandable and therefore I’ve included this classic horror favourite, The Ring, to make sure that you do not have to think about love all night.
