VIDEO: My Go-To Spring Makeup Look

As we move into the warmer months I am loving makeup that helps to control oiliness without making my skin look dull, and fresh pinky tones to match the season.

This is my go-to makeup routine at the moment, with a couple of great products I am currently obsessed with. I hope you enjoy!

1 Elizabeth Arden Flawless Start Instant Perfecting Primer

R365 for 30ml, elizabetharden.co.za

I receive so many compliments when I wear this primer. It has a lightweight feel on the skin and a blurring complex that works to minimise the appearance of pores and fine lines. I see an immediate difference as soon as I apply it, with my skin looking smoother and velvety.

The primer also works to control shine throughout the day – perfect for the warmer months ahead 0 as well as slow moisture release so that your skin stays nourished.

It has worked well with most of the foundations I have used and it really does keep my makeup looking fresh all day. Nice.

2. Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Compact in 03 Beige Diaphane

This is such a goodie going into summer. The foundation is mattifying but it doesn’t have that flat, dull appearance you often get. Instead I find the finish velvet, with a blurr effect that makes my skin look smooth and soft.

It also contains volcanic mineral powder that absorbs sebum like a sponge, and their patented Eterntiy Polymer that helps to mattify your skin and give you long wear.

They have 8 shades from light to dark so I think most South African girls will get a shade to match.

3. essence …all I need concealer palette

R79,95, essence.eu/za

This palette contains a variety of shades that help to counter red and purple tones in dark circles, as well as two cover shades. The pink and yellow help to reduce dark circles under the eyes and you can try the green to neutralizes redness.

I find it works best when applied with your fingertips. It has a matt finish but doesn’t look cakey, and once it settles it won’t move. Great value for money.

4. Maybelline Brow Pomade in Medium Brown

R129,95, exclusively to Clicks

I am a firm fan of the good’ol eyebrow pencil, and normally these new gimmicky eyebrow products don’t really match up. I have found a soft spot for this one, however. The brow pomade has a crayon shape which is easy to apply, and a creamy, highly pigmented formula that fills your brows in one swipe.

The crayon has also been formulated to work like a brow wax, with silicone oils and tinted waxes that fill, and shiny polymers to give your brows a fuller appearance.

I apply it along the base of my brow and then use a eyebrow brush to blend it out. You can also use a sponge to neaten the edges of your brows.

5. Maybelline Brow Drama Sculpting Brow Mascara in Medium Brown

R99.95, exclusive to Clicks

I like brow mascaras to add volume and to keep my eyebrows in place. This one from Maybelline has a small, round tip that makes quick, neat application so much easier.

6. Smashbox LA Lights Blush & Highlight palette

R450

I love these blusher palettes from Smashbox. You get two shades of blush, one softer and one richer, and a highlighter that you apply to your cheekbones. I find the pigment rich, smooth and easy to apply without any streaking, and the colour stays true throughout the day.

7. theBalm Meet Matt Nude Size Matters palette

R599,95, Stuttafords

I am obsessed with this eyeshadow palette. theBalm recently launched in South Africa, exlusive to Stuttafords stores. I love their quirky, retro packaging, the highly pigmented powders, and the fact that they are paraben free and and cruelty free!

This palette contains a selection of matte colours that are perfect for creating a nude look for day or night. I have been enjoying the yellow, pink and brown shades for a simple everyday look. The pigment is rich, it blends easily and it lasts really well.

8. Urban Decay Vice Reloaded Palette (LIMITED EDITION)

R1000, Urban Decay Boutique, Sandton City

This is the new limited edition palette from Urban Decay, and if you hurry you might just grab one in store before they are all sold out. You should also be able to get the shades I used as mono shadows. I used Moonflower on my lid and Midnight Cowboy on my brow bone.

9. Givenchy Le Rouge Perfecto

R605, Givenchy counters at select department stores

This is such a clever lip balm. Le Rouge Perfecto nourishes your lips with Shea butter and Hyaluronic Acid, while derivitaves of pepper and menthol stimulate bloodflow to plump them up. What I particularly love is the colour technology.

Le Rouge Perfecto’s has an active ingredient that reacts with you skin’s pH to bring a fresh glow to lips. There are no pigments, it boosts your unique lipcolour to create a rosy tint. That means each person wearing this will have their own individual colour.

10. MAC Prep + Prime Fix+

R280, maccosmetics.co.za

This is one of my favourite finishing mists. I find this just helps to blend all the makeup together and create a smoother appearance, and it helps my makeup last longer.

11. L’Oréal Paris Superstar Red Carpet Mascara

R189,95, lorealparis.co.za

This is a dual ended mascara, with a white base coat on one end and the mascara on the other. I find it gives great length and volume to give you these deep black, doll-like lashes. Obsessed.
