VLOG: Follow me to Reunion Island with Urban Decay | 9Lives
Reading Time: 4 min

I joined Urban Decay on a trip to Reunion Island for the launch of their new Naked Heat makeup collection. It was a wild 78 hours of island style, helicopter rides, French cuisine and plenty of makeup. Take a look:

We arrived at Lux Saint Gilles Beach Resort at around 10pm Reunion Time (two hours ahead of South Africa) after having left Cape Town at 7am that morning. Despite being exhausted (and melted from the heat and humidity), I was filled with that sense of serene joy you get on a perfect summer’s evening. Even at night the resort had an air of paradise; the night filled with the sounds of crickets and the ocean crashing in the distance.

Technically we only spent one full day on the island so we had to make the most of it. After breakfast we took a brief tour of the resort, followed by the most incredible helicopter ride over the island. I cannot recommend this enough. The helicopter offers a view of the coastline and mountains you won’t see any other way, and it is absolutely breathtaking. Ancient. Unspoilt. Sadly a thunderstorm prevented us from flying directly over the volcano, so it’s gone on my bucket list for when I return to Reunion.

On our return to the resort we had lunch, followed by a masterclass by makeup artist David White, and then it was time to get dressed for dinner.

The official launch party for Urban Decay Heat was held right next to the beach, complete with a live band, dancers, and a bar serving freshly cracked coconuts.

And this was just the beginning.

Each course in our dinner was paired with a Naked Palette, starting with Naked Basics as an appetizer and moving all the way through to Naked, Naked 2 and Naked 3.

And then it was time for the final course – Naked Heat, served with three limited edition Vice lipstick shades and two new eyeliners. I can already see how this could be my favourite Naked palette. The warm terracotta shades are absolutely beautiful, and I can’t wait to start playing around with them.

I will be writing a full post on the Reunion Island side of it all, with my wish list of activities for when I go back. This trip sparked a hunger for more.

A quick note on my makeup

There are a couple of things I learned about my island excursion. One is that you can never have too many island style outfits and two is that you need to be very clever if you want to apply makeup. An oil control primer is essential and I was seriously impressed with the Urban Decay De-Slick Complexion Primer. It gives your skin an instant matte finish and keeps it that way. And for touch-ups through the day (plus a instant cool-down) I really appreciated the De-Slick Makeup Setting Spray.

These were the goodies I wore through the day, including the bronzer posted below. Apart from frequent spritzes of the De-Slick spray, it kept perfectly until the evening.

I am a lifestyle blogger from Cape Town trying to find the best ways to spend my time, take care of my body and express myself. I am slightly obsessed with fragrances, sneakers, Jamie Oliver and Masterchef Australia. Oh, and I probably drink way too much wine.

  1. Wowee! This is unreal. Such an awesome vlog. Love the island vibe & I would be lying if I said that I am not super jealous. The new Urban Decay Colours also seem to be the bomb! When & where will these be available?

They are launching with the Cape Town store on the 12th of August, and will be available there first. They are really gorgeous. Going to do a post on them soon.
