We’re in the middle of winter, and we at 9Lives are definitely feeling the sting of the winter winds and the toll of the colder air on our skin. This week we even roped in one of our male colleagues to help us try out some much needed TLC skincare products. Here are our favourite products to treat our lips, hands and faces.

Trust us, you need to treat yourself with these amazing TLC products.

Avéne Cicalfate Repair Balm

R 109,95 for 10ml,

I’m a lip biter. When I’m concentrating or day dreaming I’m always biting my lower lip, which means that my lips get irritated and chapped very quickly. With that, I’m not much of a Lip Ice kind of person because it’s a temporary solution and doesn’t repair my lips in the long run. That’s why I was glad to see the Avéne Cicalfate Repair Balm on my table and stopped biting my lip for the moment in order to try the repair balm! I felt the relief instantly as I applied the balm. It has a transparent, non-sticky texture and nourished my fragile lips after a stressful day at the office. I also like that it is water resistant and does not have a flavour. That means I can have a drink without licking my lips for the cherry flavour Lip Ice that I used!

Also, the Avéne Cicalfate Repair Balm is small, so you can pop it in your handbag for in case your lip biting takes place outside of the office!

Bioderma Atoderm Hand Cream

R60,00 for 50ml,

I always struggle with dry hands and cuticles. I need to apply hand cream almost every hour. This super moisturising hand cream worked wonders! In only a week, my cuticles are less dry thanks to Bioderma Atoderm Hand Cream. The small container makes it easy for me to pop in my stationery bag or handbag when I am on the go. The best part is that it leaves my hands non-greasy and non-sweaty, and I can continue with what I am doing directly after applying it to my hands, with no need to wait for it to absorb.

Dermalogica Intensive Moisture Balance

R1 315 for 100ml,

For anyone who has dry skin year-round, I’m sure that winter becomes a nightmare for you; it certainly does for me. Suddenly everything is dry, my skin is dull, and I feel like I have to reapply moisturiser every two hours unless I want to appear as the human version of a flaky croissant. Ew, I know. I have to say that trying out Dermalogica’s Intensive Moisture Balance moisturiser has been an absolute saving grace in this regard. I don’t constantly have to worry about when last I applied moisturiser, and I can’t remember the last time I felt even remotely this okay about stepping out into winter winds. I’d seriously recommend this moisturiser to anyone who is currently struggling with dry, dehydrated or dull skin.

La Roche-Posay Effaclar H Hydrating Cleansing Cream

R220, select pharmacies and

As someone who constantly struggles with dehydrated, fussy skin, I always opt for cleansing balms, creams and oils instead of foaming cleansers that can sometimes leave that squeaky, stripped feel. It’s essential to cleanse with products that won’t strip the natural oils that help to keep your skin nourished and moisturised. The La Roche-Posay Effaclar H Cleansing Cream is fantastic. It has a silky quality that clears away daily build-up while still leaving my skin comfortable and soft. This probably won’t take off your long-wear makeup so it’s best to pre-cleanse with a makeup remover first – though I’d recommend this as part of a proper cleansing routine anyway.

Nivea Hyaluron Cellular Filler

R325,00 for 30ml,

Nothing screams TLC to me like an elixir, especially one that makes my face feel nourished and replenished. I’m a big fan of Nivea’s products because apart from the fact that they are really well-priced, I’ve been using their products successfully for quite some time. This oil elixir is my first go in their Hyaluron cellular filler range and I must say I’m quite impressed. My skin felt intensely moisturised, but not oily or sticky. The elixir works in two phases, giving you a lot of moisture, while also boosting your collagen and elastin production, acting as a filler. So, imagine settling in for the night, face cleansed and you treat yourself to this moisturising elixir – heaven!

Optiphi Body Curve Calm Balm

R1 200 for 100ml,

Shaving often leaves my skin sensitive, red and irritated. Finding something that both soothes and moisturises can be quite tough. I found that the Optiphi Calm Balm ticks both those boxes; while it almost immediately removes the redness and soothes the area, it also moisturises the skin. The thick, rich cream forms a layer over the skin, protecting the area and taking away most of the sensitivity.
